Wasup;)

I was just thinkin, the more I play bf2, the more the hard work and effort Dice put into the game becomes apparent(/enable_flame_suit 1). Then I started thinking, hmm, Dice says they've been developing bf2142 for only a year now(it's been reported that its actually been in development before bf2, though), so will bf2142 be as top tier of a game as bf2 is? I mean with everything, from kick-ass intro movies, to kick ass background movies and load-up music, to weapons, classes, maps, vocal work, and everything in between. So, what do you think?

You guys who have played the beta sure can chime in to go us the low down on bf2142's scope:p

Thank you for your time:)

I am not sure what you are asking. I am not trying to be a dick, I just need some clarification before I answer your question.

Are you asking if 2142 is as good as bf2? Or do you just want details on the things you don't know about already from the information already available on the Internet? If so, can you be more specific? You could probably write 2000+ words on any of those topics you listed.

I think EA want to create a definitive game, whether BF2142 does I'm still not sre. There are a wide scope of maps - some of the buildings in game look fuckin awesome, especially the weird thing in the "Minsk" map, ( the building at the end of the first BF2142 trailer.) and it does look bloody cool. As long as they make sure that everything works how they want it to it should be fine.
(At the moment, no, but I'm the one noisy Kiwi bastard in the Phase 2 Beta to try and make sure they do.)

I'll only get 2142 if it has:

- Weak points for massive damage
- Real time weapon change
- Giant enemy crabs
- and Ridge Racer
I need around tree fiddy.

background movies: Non-existent in beta. My guess is that they will be on par with bf2, honestly I don't pay much attention to the movies, I am more interested in the content of the actual game.

load-up music: Load up music did what it was supposed to, gave you something to listen to while waiting for a map to load. Being an amateur producer I would say that the music is what you might expect from a score writer with a few years of experience, nothing really jumps out at me as innovative or particularly fitting to the game. I guess that most people will turn it off after a while, just like bf2.

Weapons are going to be the most whined thing about on this site for like a week. Much different than bf2s weapons, and they take some time getting used to, once you do get used to them though they are much more intuitive and realistic than some of the bf2 weapons.

If you have every played a game with tiered unlocks, then you already know how the classes work. Initially they are very similar to their bf2 counterparts, but after a few unlocks you will be able to specialize in some awesome gear that keeps you a step ahead of your enemies. Their is no "Rambo" (et al support in BF: VN) kit in this game, they are all equally useful, sans engineer, unless of course they have fixed the ammo/range problems with the weapons.

Beta only had one map, so it's hard to make a comparison to bf2, if I were to compare Verdun to any map in bf2 I'd have to say Wetlands for size and number of spawns/vehicles. However; mobile spawn points really change the dynamic of the game, so I don't think any map will play exactly like a bf2 map. These creatures are completely different animals. Like comparing Counter Strike and Rainbow six.

Vocal work (I am guessing you mean voice acting), is on par with bf2, the EU voices kind of scare me a little. Just a little too much Queen's English. I half expect the commander to say something like "Okay lads, this is the plan, first squad, rally over to the missile silos whilst squad two gets back from the beach. Squad three if you have time, would you please storm the enemy titan, hopefully we can be back in time for tea and crumpets."

Other than that, I expect many people to be pleasantly surprised on how much of an incentive they have given teamwork.

Thank you everybody!

O.K., kinda hard to explain for me, but what I meant was: let's say you look at two games, BF2, and Quake 4. Both had high expectations. If you're a quakehead, you'd probably like Quake 4 more than any other game(for argument's sake).

If you're a BF head(or fps gamer, or anyone, for that matter), you'd probably like BF2's gameplay. But what about the packaging itself? I think I'm right when I say BF2 was packaged much MUCH more better than than Quake 4 was. Which means Dice didn't spare any money in production OR leave out any details, when creating BF2(bugs aside).

For instance, in Quake 4, Raven didn't include female models. Why? Female(and custom) models have been a BIG fun part of Quake since Quake 1, so didn't Raven know the fans would be disappointed/pissed with this absence of caring/putting a little extra effort into the game? Also, when *I* compare the sky of Quake 4 to Quake 2, I pretty damn well know Quake 2's sky looks a ton better( artistically and technically). How is that, when Quake 4 is on the Doom 3 engine and Quake 2 is on, well, an engine from 1997? And to boot, I'd be hard press to believe Raven/ID didn't have enough money to hire some artists to make a decent rendition of WHAT'S OVER US EVERYDAY. This sort of half-assness trend goes on in Quake 4 I believe, which is PRETTY sad for a series so highly regarded, and even Sadder when I think, "why cut so many corners? Didn't Raven know they HAD COMPETITION?!"

Now with BF2, no corners are cut, nothing is left out(bugs aside, flame on). The first thing you see is, imo, a kick-ass movie that pretty much says "Get ready for the time of your life!", and they come through. Not only that, but when I pay a little attention to it, it's easy to see Dice REALLY made some extra effort into making the movie better-than-normal. It's this effort, that seperates bf2 from "subpar" games(gameplay aside), e.g. Quake 4.

The other day I discovered On Sharqi-64, if I get close to the TOW(?) south of the Hotel flag, I can see the color of the sunsetting sky beautifully on the weapon's scope. I also discovered two nights ago that when I move my MEC AK around slowly, I can see a beautiful but VERY subtle reflection of light on the gun's metal casing(?).

Hell, if I'm hanging around a USMC commander who's throwing grenades at the enemy, I won't hear "Grenade! Frag Out!" in some 21 year old's "typical soldier" voice, but instead, I'll hear the highly dramatic "Grenadeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!" in a comically stereo-typed, old-white-man commander's vocals. Yes, Dice even payed attention to that, and with a little effort, it payed off. I Never played BF1, but I think it was highly innovative and envolving to risk alienating players by having whole teams speak their complete native tongue, which, to this day, I'm still learning. Of course, if Dice was like Raven/ID, they wouldn't even have spent to money and effort to do so. Wait, if they were MORE like Raven/ID, they wouldn't have thought "maybe this would piss off the community" and added an "english only" option.

THIS trend of thoughtful and effort-filled development adds "the icing on the cake." Sure, the idea of the gameplay(running from one cp to another in highly dynamic, volatile battlefields) was enough to please a gamer, but Dice took an EXTRA mile to make sure their game wasn't mediocre.

Well, was just wondering, did they follow in their footsteps with the given time they had to develop BF2142? I sure hope so:)

i must say that from the beta i really like the verdun map as even though its biggger there are more spawn points so you were never that far away from the action. i like the atmosphere of a ruined land that the map had as well like the destroyed town and the crumbling concrete walls. and of course the main thing for me is the kick ass buggies that were much faster than the Bf2 ones and they had a turbocharge as well, they are just fun defined in my opinion.

who wants to play a game about futuristic crap. i think real life is better or stuff dealing with the past. Whos going to have a clue what any of these make believe fantasy weapons are. At least on bf2 u can go into the game knowing what to expect when u have a m-16 with a 203 on it.

i'm still really confused about the way that making cool intro movies counts as paying attention to detail when it's been well over a year and they still can't fix the red name bug.  i'm not meaning to flame, but intro movies and loading music are the first things i get rid of when i start playing a new game...  i'd much rather the coding team concentrate on making a rock solid game that runs correctly.  to me, attention to detail means that the server browser works, and you can always see the ip of the server you're playing in so you can tell your friends where you're playing.  but hey, whatever floats your boat...

as far  as  2142, like it's been stated before:  the vocals are as good as bf2.  we couldn't tell much about the subtle graphics effects because most of the graphic work wasn't finished.  but, concerning gameplay, i love the system of giving points for squad leaders giving commands and their squads following them.  i'd give someone at dice a handjob if they'd include that into the next bf2 patch.

The more (positive) things I read about bf2142, the more I believe it's going to kick some ass! It seems at this point that as far as quality goes, bf2142 doesn't fall short of bf2, but whether or not someone plays one game or another, comes down to vital preferences. I for one was introduced to medium-core sci-fi at a VERY early age,
so I'm pleasanty awaiting what bf2142 has to offer, especially if it ain't generic/expected sci-fi stuff, much akin to Quake 2's "in-the-future-but-STILL-no-computer-terminals-everywhere" theme:)

Well I did say bugs aside:) I'm personally *very* tolerant of whatever bugs I encounter in bf2. Probably the worse bug incident I had was when I managed to get a full squad of peeps that followed my orders...which in turn kept the silly USMC(jalal.) at bay from "Mosque" by fortifying "Market," just to ctd as stuff was getting good. Yet, I still came back to the game with the mind-frame "mannnn I can sure get some of that again."

I'll liken the external things(movies, music) to sound in a game one knows very well: Does the person need the sound at this point? From my experience, no. DOES the sound make the game more fun? Umm, from experience, HELL YES!!

Imo;)

But yea, I too would blowjob/handjob Dice if they implement bf2142's squadwork/incentives if it's implemented in bf2! I think that's a GREAT idea, one that would solidfy bf2 as a kick-ass game and one that would please teamworkers who prefer modern combat over sci-fi'ness.

You play BF2 for realism? I wash dishes and mow my lawn for realism, I play games and read books to escape that. Maybe you would be happier with Microsoft flight simulator, much more realistic in my opinion.
