Ok well I'm a real tech newbie but is surround sound really worth getting? Does BF2 support it? and I've been looking around and what will the number of watts do? Will it just make it have the ability to go louder? and my final question, does anyone have a recommendation for a gamer on a budget ($200CAD max.)?
Well, fellow canadian here, got the logitech x-530's, work great, just about all games will give you surround sound automatically, the rest have the option. I payed 80 for mine, and another 2 for some little hardware for the rear compatibilty so i can have my headset hooked up at the same time. Just look around at ur local electronics shop.
I use Turtle Beach headphones with 5.1 and YES they do work. I can't imagine playing BF2 on 2.1 sound anymore. It's especially helpful when someone is coming up behind you. 2.1 won't let you hear it but 5.1 picks it up. I also perfer the headset because it does away with the annoying wires.

Get Logitech Z5400 or Z5500 if you want them louder. They're very nice.

Surround sound does help.. i recommend SpeedLink Medusa 5.1 ProGamer Edition headphones (~£40) for BF2... if you use VOIP or Teamspeak etc headphones are the way to go..
I also have my Xi-Fi hooked up to an AV Receiver for movies and games where i don't talk..

you seem to get better clarity on headphones which allows you to pick up noises that otherwise you wouldn't hear and also with headphones it doesn't matter where you sit (as the speakers are on your head) you will always have the perfect balance.
