gawddamnit, my school just god a new security system, and a part of it is that they're now using Websense. It basically blocks anything remotely entertaining meaning that there are now ~60 computers that you can't use if you have some time off to do anything you want.

Anyone know of a way to beat this? proxies that aren't blocked, alternative browsers, site-in-site, etc.

Nope, needs to be more sneakier than that. "the websense category proxy avoidance is restricted".

I'd be very interested to find out what you used, especially if it doesn't require installing anything. The IT Nazi's here at work don't let you see anything

Try that, I used to use it early this year, until I was made an "IT Nazi" so don't need it anymore

I fear the mental scars will stay with me forever. I'm going to ring my mum and tell her I cannot go on.

I will, I'll do it, i'm ringing her now. Now he'll pay.

Actually, no. I know a better way to demoralise someone from Rotherham. I've got it, by jove i've got it.

I'm sorry it came to that...

I've tried that and many others, now I just use a closed proxy server run by someone in my year.

Ok, can I just point something out... Coming from my point of view (sysadmin for possibly the 3rd largest IT company on the planet) anything that bypasses proxies or firewalls are a big NO. Whether its at school or work these systems are in place for a reason. They actually do a job by blocking dangerous content that could get on to the network, believe me there main priority is not to stop you looking at naked women over the t'internet but to block viruses, spyware and the like.

One last thing to remember every computer or piece of equipment on a network has event logs, and if its been found that you are using software to bypass certain systems and you are caught, I believe you wont be using that equipment again. From my point of view if I discovered something on my network I wouldn't want to be that agent.

ps, we have ways of knowing what is installed on any machine at any time, or what software has been used and even what websites have been visited. And anyone who is suggesting useing these bypass methods that work in IT, tut tut tut you should really know better.

Still traceable, as evertime you log on to a machine it records that you have been there... Now if you didn't like somebody and had their log on details, well thats a different matter, oh and very serious if you get caught.

He means by remote desktop, that you log on from your work/school to your home computer and use your own internet from there

But you would still have the same problem logging on to your home PC, unless your IP had been registered in the firewall/proxy.
