Anybody know where I can download MP3 songs onto my MP3 player (NOT an iPod) for free? And legally? And not have to register for anything or download extra software? I can't seem to find anything.
It's not the place you get it from that determines the legality but the copyright holder of the song. So, if the particular musician you want to listen to isn't giving away the song for free, you have to pay for it for it to be legal.
In other words, your options are limited. I don't know of any place to get any MP3 you want for free, legally.

For the most part, not paying and downloading a free file legally, contradict each other. The above poster explained this very well.

The only free legal mp3's you can download are either really generous artists, or unsigned artists. Mostly unsigned artists.

window media player has there shit where you can sync your mp3 player to it, and as for free songs... Limewire, Bittorrent is what i use. I havent paid for a CD in about oh 5 years

I use Limewire and torrents. Torrents are great because you can download entire discographies. This whole "illegally downloading MP3s" thing is a joke. Everybody does it. They first started suing people to put a scare in them, also to begin the whole iTune fad where they make you pay for the songs. Ever since then nothing really happened. I bet you nothing will happen again if you download songs unless you somehow directly rip of iTunes or something, but just downloading torrents or off limewire or something won't do any damage.

Or you could go get "CDEX" google it. It's a program where you can take music off your own cds and make them into mp3s. You can do the opposite too. This program is free.

wait......some of you 'pay' for cd's? My god....PAY for cd's? sickening. Im glad australia dosent have the legislation in place yet to legally track illegal downloads and crap. Limewire and torrets ftw! dont do kazaa, they got sued and they got a lot of people who were connected to them. im not sure there even still around.
Whoa, I'm pretty sure he wants a program to transfer Mp3s to his mp3 player from his PC, NOT to nab songs of the net.
I can't help here though, I stick with flash drive mp3 players. No extra drivers needed for me so far.
