I have a Minitower Media center PC and i want to put it in a bigger case. But my problem is that it has a built in memory card reader, a built in analog/usb/firewire port in it. So am i basically screwed?

not especially... check if they're really "BUILT IN"... they could still be removable... just blend in really well

if they're not... find a case that has those built in as well...

or option three... you'll live without a memory card reader and firewire

nah, they can all come out if you know what you're doing. even if you have to cut them out, strip the excess off and build new housings. if you're careful and know what you;re doing it shouldn't be too much of a problem

Oh.... Brand name shit is usually a big issue to get to run in/with non-brand name parts ! However, HP and IBM (biggest offenders) are starting to play nice, and follow at least SOME of the standards for PC building. Heck, i've even heard IBM has started using screws you can buy a screwdriver for (wihtout having to pay $10.000 for "proprietary tools") !

As someone said, USUALLY you can get the stuff (USB/FW etc) out of your bays or casing if you have to. However, if you really dont want to fuck up your case (can't see why not seeing as you're going to replace it anyway), you can just disconnect the wires leading to these items from your Mobo, and go out and get "new" hardware/plugs for your new case. Ofcourse with HP, there's a good chance they've screwed with the wiring, so you may need to fiddle a bit with the wires if you want the "original" mobo fittings to control the new hardware. Alternatively, just buy a single decent PCI controller with FW/USB and a cardreader. You can get all of that shit in a single 5 1/4 inch front panel extension and a single PCI card. With a bonus of temp/fan guage/controller or audio plugs. Pricing is not that steep, but expect to have to pay between $50 and $100 for a "cheap" model.
