hmm, my ps2 (both of them) are scattered around my room somewhere.

my old one stands up, and my newer one lies down, as it's too thin to stand up without getting easily knocked.

so what do i put?

That'd be how I've got mine... safer than vertical (not paying for a damn stand) and cooler than horizontal.... best way with mine because a slim line case doesn't leave alot of room for the heat from the mod chip to disperse ...
