this video (if true) is against the geneva convention...because it is against it to shoot human being with a .50cal round that arnt protected by body armour or in a building
1) I just said that in a post prior to yours.david363 wrote:

2) This whole thread people have been saying that those are animals, not people.

While I don't doubt the video is showing animals being shot a funny story comes to mind about the .50 cal sniper rifle from my days in the USMC (91-97). One of my Seargents was telling us how in Desert Storm a sniper got a confirmed kill on 7 enemies when they were patroling in a line. The round hit the first man in the upper chest and tumbled through the other 6 behind him. They were approximately 3 - 5 meters apart.
It is against Geneva convention to engage personel with the .50 cal sniper rifle, but as it goes, it's not illegal unless you get caught and the snipers I talked to said they never shot at personel but they shot at gear. Like a helmet or a flak jacket...now if someone just so happened to be wearing said gear..then....

That, if real, is nothing short of awesome! That is some serious carnage for a sniper rifle. This kind of thing should probably be banned in modern, civilized, warfare. This weapon should put the fear of God in any badguys hoping to hide. You don't just get a wound from the round, requiring a head shot for a sure kill, you get obliterated flesh; exploding heads and torsos... sheesh!
This only adds to the frustration with BF2's version of this rounds impact on soft targets. 2 shots for a kill? I don't think so.
ok, if that video is true, even if it was at animals, then Bf2 needs to get it's .50 Cal guns upgraded. they only cause a small explosion when they hit the ground in bf2.
Would you rather them take to the streets of Miami with it?LT.Victim wrote:

But why would they be shooting small animals?
And .50 cal guns arent completely banned. There are still .50 cal machine guns that are used, and they are used as needed. Im not 100% sure, but the machine gun on an Apache helo is .50 cal.......(google searching as we speak)
EDIT: - Actually its a 30mm round, my fault. But the .50 cal is a 12.7mm round....so take your pic on which youd rather be hit by. The Apache gun is has been used on infantry....youve all seen the video.

This, my friends, is why I love snipers. Every sniper I've talked to (something like 7 of them) have exactly this attitude, and I love it.Leataher_Nuts73 wrote:

Mmmm True that. But the size of the bullet isn't just about the calibre, I mean, sure it is, but you can also make the bullet a lot LONGER, not just wider, because the rifle is designed to chamber some seriously badass stuff. But in reality, you can get flesh flying from a simple .32 or .40 if you really wanted to. It's about the amount of kinetic energy and the shape/size of the bullet. The "fun" thing about the modern day .50 cals, is that the barrel can take almost all the punishment you can dish out, you can put enough powder in your projectiles to feed a GRENADE, and it will fire (not sure about the newer versions, but the old ones were/are pretty sturdy) !Ridir wrote:
A barret .50 cal is an anti material rifle capable of penetrating several inches of steel, including a steel safe. In fact the majority of rounds fired into a safe in a military shoot of the rifle came out the rear of the safe too. Now employ that weapon against soft targets and you'll get flesh flying all over the place. You can't just think of the entry wound when you think of a gunshot. You have to think of the exit wound, and a round that large, well, it's going to make a huge exit wound if the body is still intact. If you've ever heald 5.56 or 7.62 rounds you'll be surprised by how small the actual round is, but the damage they do is catasphoric.
My cousin teaches shooting various guns (in the US, I might add, I've NEVER EVER seen guns of the calibre they're using anywhere else in the WORLD !) for law enforcement. He still has one of the "old" M82A1 barrets, it comes WITHOUT recoil compensator as standard. Instead it comes with a BOLT GUN in the rifle case so you can bolt down the rifle before firing !
When using high grain projectiles (not sure of the acutal loadout, but it's only used for target practice he tells me), he doesn't even need to HIT hit target. A "near miss" going less than 2 feet by a pedestrian WILL rip an arm off ! Yep, the kinetic energy is/can be higher than a tank round ! I guess that's another good rason why these motherfucker guns are not used in hostage situations !
Ofcourse the "modern versions" have recoil compensation, and usually fires somewhat smaller more focused projectiles. And I'm sure you can find bullets that will not have so much kinetic energy that you can't use it properly.
As far as I can understand, the only reason that law enforcement actually BOUGHT these guns at an early stage, seeing as they were of NO use whatsoever in a law enforcement capacity, was to use them in the inter agency shooting contests ! Ofcourse you have a good chance of winning with a huge scope, and a rifle that can put a piece of steel 1½ miles downwind.
Now if THAT's not a waste of money, I dont know what is... But it's STILL a really cool rifle, the part about bolting it down does seem a bit extreme, but having seen it fired without bolting I can understand why, so personally I'd prefer a newer model (M107 ?) with recoil compensation. I haven't tried one yet, but I will the next time I vacation somewhere they're legal !
But if you REALLY want to talk anti materiel rifles, try having a look at some of these:
The Croatian RT20, The Hungarian APH RK20 and The South African NTW-20, all are 20mm the same as used on a gunship !
AFAIK, these are the only known anti materiel rifles in existance (not counting the old soviet ones) that has some military usage (Yes I know steyr and other companies have made some and that the .50 is ALSO classed as anti materiel, but show me some other 20mm that is in USE, and I'll accept that the list is longer than I thought). The projetiles being 20mm have a base that is roughly 50% larger than the ones used in a .50 cal (12.7mm). so a 20x114mm projectile being a "small" option for these, is about the same as the heavy option for the .50. However, AFAIK, the NTW-20 CAN fire a regular (12.7mm) projectile with some modifications. But the guns are designed to fire strictly anti materiel rounds, and hitting a soft target with them is definately not recommended !

isn't kinda sick that when we're all kids(yes, even radical muslims were kids), we have a real good perspective on life(conditions allowing), but some, if not, too much of us(us as in HUMAN BEINGS) end up being brutally dominated?

They taste delicious!
As for the discussion about what is and isn't allowed in warfare (referring to weaponry and bullets) I too find in quite...funny (funny odd, not funny teehee) that they put restrictions on what you can and can't use to kill a man. War is hell...war is bloody...I think I would rather be definately killed, as in blown into many pieces, as opposed to just having a chunk blown off and still alive. Someone getting shot by a .50 calibre round wouldn't feel it, wouldn't even know what hit him...just...lights out.

I THINK ITS A BARRETT light .50 cal explosive sniper round usually used by engineer snipers to detonate uxo (unexploded ordnance) im in the brit army royal engineers and seen it used against uxb, and yes...www.fuckinawesome.com!!P581 wrote:

bullets like the ones from 50 calibur sniper rifle has enormous kinetic energy
god this varmint hunting video is soo old... Funny they try to say they are taliban now...
BTw, if you have been varmint hunting, high velocity and small game = the flying .
hey tek drake thats a sick sig...could i have it but with my name? lol
Those cant be al-quaeda. The US military has laws against using .50 cals on personell for obvious reasons. Yes that is really a 50 cal shooting , and yes thats what it does, but if the targets they are hitting are alive at all, they are definitely not humans

All's fair in love and war...
I've seen a .50 shoot and I can say DAMN! The sounds itself feels like it'll push you off your feet if you're standing (I was.); I can't imagine the power behind the round! The one I saw the guy was shooting at 1 1/2" plate steel with a target round (620 grain instead of 720 and non-armor piercing I believe.) and even without the armor piercing round it damn near went through. I asked where I could buy it. Class 3 license here I come!
