I think its my ISP side that images on bf2s dont load but after i MANUALLY set a proxy, it works, why? And whats a proxy anyway?
A proxy is usually one (or both) of two things:
1) A repository for recently and often used images etc. This is rather handy, if you need something very often. and very cost effective for the ISP who doesn't have to pay for downloading the HOTMAIL image everytime one of his costumers want's to check their mail. Plus th speed gets a nice boost, so the costumers gt happier, and are willing to pay/suffer more.
2) A Server that acts as a "link" through an otherwise closed or remote network, or used to anonymize your connection. Sort of like logging into a server with remote access and then surfing from there, except with a proxy, you do it stictly on the "web" protocols (like port 80 usually).
You will be using a proxy if you have only 1 IP adress, and no router, but two PCs. Then you just link up the two PCs and install a proxy on one. Then the other PC can surf through the proxy.
You will also be using a proxy if you want to anonymize your surfing. Normally, IE, netscape and loads of other browsers give out HUGE amounts of information about you. But in realit,y to get the internet to work, you need only give away your port and IP number. A proxy can delete all of this "extra stuff", and proxies installed on a remote system can "pretend" that it's THEM, not you surfing the site in question. This is really cool if you're a persecuted chinese christian, or political activist in a closed society. However, it's equally troublesome if the proxy user is a pedophile or terrorist !
Normally, you've got a huge cache repository with your ISP, to save them the trouble of redownloading all the little images from very popular sites, like adds, hotmail, google, yahoo etc. This is also a proxy like configuration, except you never see it, nor do you (usually) need to configure it !
