I recently re-installed XP and added a new 7600gs card to my system. After installing BF2 and the 1.3 full patch BF2 would try to run and then drop to desktop. I had to kill the process because everytime I tried to get back in it would go back to desktop. I thought it was the settings but it will run in window mode so my card should be able to handle it. AFAIK all drivers up to date.

Any ideas what to check if window mode works but full screen doesn't?

If you are running your monitor on DVI, you know that funny looking fat square plug for flat pannels... EA has a fix for it. You have to add a line to your bf2 shortcut, so it executes it properly. This has happened for a few of the guys in my clan. I unfortunately do not remember the line of code, put a trouble ticket into EA. They should get back to you within a business day. Since this is the weekend it'll probably be Tuesday before you hear anything.

It's just a bug with certain models.

I started looking for posts on DVI and I got a bit further. For some odd reason there's a problem with 60hz now even though the only hardware change was my 7600gs. I went into video.con and changed this line

VideoSettings.setResolution 800x600@60Hz

to 75Hz and I was able to get to the login/account menu. But ....

When trying to get to the game menu it appears to go back to 60hz and have same issue. I found a link http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6313#6313 to describe what I think you are talking about but it only addresses the x and y and not the refresh.

Still looking.

I never thought I'd figure it out but this appears to work.

Under the Nvidia control panel there's an option (might be advanced) to change flat panel scaling. I think my default was to use the my monitor's built in scaling (3rd on my list). I changed it to use Nvidia's scaling with fixed aspect ration (2nd on my list) and it appears to work.
