Ok I have a grand and I'd like to build good solid gaming computer. I'd like to be able to play BF2 and 2142 when it comes out and be able to upgrade later.I know that it wont be top of the line but i'm hoping to get decent graphics and (hopefully) lag free play. I already have a g15 keyboard and a g5 mouse but thats it.
So reading these forums I know there are many people on here that are much more " In The Now " than I am. Any help would be most grateful. Thanks in advance....... SaBbOtT

find an e6400 core 2 duo conroe core (LGA 775, but only some Mobos support it) 250+~$
a 7600GT 180$
2gb ram 200$
(new harddrive or not?)
thats about it,

should run games fine. without breaking the bank.
you could always get a 7900GT, 7950, if you want to spend more money, or an E6600 C2D

the second pc in my sig. upgreade to 2gigs of ram and a faster proc (e6600 if possible). also a different mobo is possible, i choose the asus one because it has lots of integrated stuff that will be handy when i use the pc as a media pc (its only for some light gaming during the week when i'm at university)

EDIT: to above poster: only e6600 and up are conroes, the e6300 and e6400 are allendales (only 1/2 the cache)

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

yeah it is...? it is most definately c2d compatible... which is the cpu link... it says "supprted cpu's: c2d"

so, i thought, 'hey, it just might support a c2d'

lol

link works now.

sorry my bad, its a 945G chipset, i just saw something below a 965 and though, not c2d compatible. still i'd suggest a 965 or 975X chipset based board

Thought BF2 only utilizes one core? Isn't dual core a waste?

Not if you use it for more than bf2.

i like the setup des gave you, everything except the motherboard...1: its a micro-atx board, 2: its not a 975x.... if you need more  $$, you could probably get not-corsiair ram for about 30-40$ cheaper thatll be just fine...i have corsair just because the system i bought came with corsiair...i would get some ocz or something...i think that i saw some ocz gold on newegg for 240..

EIDT: AND a reacharound? geesh...that must be one of those 1-day weekend sales...

mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6813130051

ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6820227047

i know the mobo is a lot more, but if you base everything off of crap means the end system =crap.

another thing: i would get a western digital hdd....mainly because ive had them for 5 yrs and no issues...ever...and i think they're a bit  cheaper: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6822144417 would me my choice...total is under 1000 (less monitor) based on des' system (imo a bit better)
