You can get it out by using something small like a paper clip into the really small hole on the face of the cd rom.  It will pop right out.

Try this.  Right click on my computer.  Then click manage.(I am assuming you at least have WinXP).  Then find Device Manager.  Find the place where your CDROM is supposed to be.  If it has a yellow question mark then your computer doesn't see it.  Try turning your computer off, opening up the casing and make sure the cables are attached.  I had this happened to me a couple of weeks ago and I fixed it this way.

if that doesnt work: you have to desemble the drive...it'll most likely not work again, but you get your disk back...take the drive out, remove the faceplate. if you cant see the cd then, unscrew the small, tight screws along the top/bottom of the drive. remove whater. at that point, you should either see a silicon board or the cd. if you see the board, it will definitely not work again if you proceed. unscrew the board, remove it. then you should see the cd. if not, tear apart/unscrew whatever else it takes.

i know this because my drives decide to hold a cd in the drive, but the tray comes out and i put another one in, and it wont come out again. me, being...challenged...have done this more than once with different drives....

no guarentees on the above, but its worked for me for three drives.

Also if you do open up the computer to check the connection, just unplug the cable from the back of the drive and plug it back in again, then turn the thing back on, that should do it.  My DVD writer "disappears" every few months, and I just do that and it's good again
