no, you'll be upgrading in about 4 months. DX10Aust1mh wrote:
Sorry to here about the budget.... but i would suggest you save and get a kick ass card.
you'll only be upgrading again in a year or 2.

Not if he's on a tight budget. DX10 cards will be £$£$. DX10 games will still run on DX9 hardware through a D3D9Ex renderpath.Des.Kmal wrote:

Seriously no, I have it and it is a great card, but for most people it's not necessary, especially with 3.0 shaders coming up (not DX10, people are all misguided about that) it's a waste of money now.Aust1mh wrote:

i thought i saw 7950 is upgradable to DX10.
one word: compatibility. not all cards, er, rather, most cards wont bee, it is pretty high demanding if i am not mistaken.Towelly wrote:
I don't know why everyone is on about DX10 "cards" DX10 is a piece of software, you can install it on almost any graphics card around today, just like you could install DX9 onto almost any card from a year or so before it was released.
The only thing that the current cards won't be able to do is 3.0 shader models.
I have no evidence or sources for this, just the word of someone who does this sort of thing for a living.

No cards are DX10 supported now.
It's how it's going to work. There is NO DX10 hardware currently available. You will be able to run DX10 games with DX9 cards though. They won't be using DX10 so they won't run so fast and some features will not be available, but all DX10 games for the next few years will include a renderpath that allows them to be run on DX9 hardware.Des.Kmal wrote:

link please?
Whoever told you that is misinformed. The 3.0 shader models are probably the most important part of DX10, but that doesn't mean you will be able to run DX10 games in true DX10 with 2.0 shader models. The reason for this is capability bits which have been removed from DX10. These capability bits show what features are supported by the available GPU, this allows for backwards compatibility. DX10 has got rid of these so there is no backwards compatibility, for optimisation reasons.Towelly wrote:
