I am getting pretty good at flying and stuff but fighting other jets is a problem. I hope someone here can let me on the BIG SECRET to fighting in jets because it seems like everyone I play against is in on something I don't know...
When enaging other jets, I used to just sit in air-to-air mode and wander around looking for someone. When I found someone I would usually be a bit of a ways back from them and as soon as I got lock I'd wait for them to drop flares then when I re-engage lock I let missiles fly. The other goes banks hard in some direction and my missiles just go right past him.
So I started to fly around in bombing mode as to not alert anyone, and I'd fly RIGHT up to the ass of some enemy jet and as quick as I can lock and fire some missiles. This worked out better for some newbie pilots but most pilots still jsut did some sharp turn to the left or right and my missiles go past them.
I have tried varying where my crosshairs are pointed when I fire missiles... sometimes I point at the engine, get lock, fire. Missiles don't hit. So I try point my crosshair a little above their plane while maintaining lock, sort of like leading them... but no difference. Tried a little below too... nope. Somehow it seems like no matter what if someone is banking hard to some direction, they are invincible.
But unfortunately this doesn't seem to apply to me. When I'm in a jet even in a J10 as soon as I hear someone trying to get lock I tap afterburner and pull my joystick back as hard as I can to bank in some direction- BOOM dead. Flares? May help vs. AA on the ground but against enemy jets I still get blown up.
So I got some problems here, 1 is I have trouble shooting down anything besides a newbie because whenever I lock on someone they just bank in some direction and my missiles simply miss. Doesn't matter if they in a J10 or a F35B. Same results. 2 is when I try the same thing, I get shot down.
So what's the secret? Come on some of you guys are probably reading this and know exactly what I'm talking about. Please one of you let me in on it before I go insane
