The success of the chip, and indeed of Direct X 10, will likely depend on how the Windows Vista launch travels, Direct X 10 being a feature of Vista. The Chip, the GeForce 8800 (code G80) is likely to compete against ATi's R600 generation chip, due out in 2007.

You have a point. Hmm maybe its going to get installed with Crysis.

I've heard that XP would get some kind of limited support for DX10, but the real deal comes only with Vista.

Better hold your horses and get one of the later releases of the G80 series. No need to rush with the hardware when there is no software to make it work

I won't be buying it. Even if I had the money and a compatible PC (which I don't and I probably don't) I wouldn't buy it - it's being released well before DX10 and there'll be plenty of time for microsoft go changing some minor aspect of DX10 that makes this card break or, at best, need never satisfactory patching forevermore...

You need windows vista - and DX10 card. Xp doesn't support dx10.
