I have 1.5gb ram, an intel 2.4ghz processor and a 7600gS card. I set my settings to medium but changed some of it to low or off. Is it normal to have 20-30fps in a firefight?
So its the cpu only? And its normal right.
Sometimes i see the numbers 19/50 on my fps wow. So should i changed to low settings?

It could well be the CPU.
The easy way to tell is have task manager running the background.
If the CPU is running at 100% then it's a bottleneck.
You can maximise your FPS by having as many setting on low as possible.
It is very important to have some settings on mid or high, as they let you see further, but you can boost your FPS by not seeing pebbles on the ground.
The settings that you want as high as possible are geometry, texturefiltering and 100% view. These are the ones that can let you see further, all the others are just pretty.
Hope this info helps man.

Hmm ok, i was using an ati 9600pro b4, and my settings were low but view 100percent.
My computer is incredibly slow, but im in 50 fps combat.

1 gig and no idea how slow mine is, though its enough to piss me off when I stand up and for no apparent reason go prone again.
Ok, i tried a full 64p karkand server. FPS was hovering between the 25 to 35fps range and sometimes even 19fps in hectic areas. I still could own people and got a 17 4 score as an infantry.
lol. What do you define as 'incredibly slow' then?ToiletTrooper wrote:

I have an AMD Athlon XP 2400, 1 Gig RAM, NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 (128MB RAM), which meets the basic requirements set out by EA *cough*.
Today was the first time I checked my FPS and I joined a near-full 64 player server that I regularly play on with ping <60. My FPS ranged between 15 and 20.2, but I only got above 17 when I was looking at the sky waiting to be revived.
My CPU usage is constantly 100% while I'm running BF2. I'm using the default low settings but with view distance at 100%.
I'm just wondering how much difference it makes... if I upgrade to a machine that will do 50 FPS will I be a better player (or be just as bad but get better scores)?
It may be a bandwidth issue. If you lag during a firefight, or when you can see the carrier superstrucure on "Iron Gator", then it's USUALLY a bandwidth issue. Setting your resolution lower will help, removing lighting/shadows might help. But this most frequently happens to people running an old AGP GPU. Update to PCIe and experience a whole new wold of gaming !
