Does IE download all the links on a forum thread? For pics i know it does.

Not sure what you mean by "download". IE doesn't download the content on thse links unless you click them. If you mean wether IE will "display" them as links, that is a function of the forum, not IE.
I mean will it 'download' and appear in the temp files?
All browsers use a cache unless you tell them not to. You can disable the cache or clear it when you're done if you want. Much easier to do in Firefox than IE BTW.

I think he means does IE pre-cache pages - that is, when you load the first page, does it scan for all link tags, pull out the urls and then start downloading those pages in the background?

Same for Firefox, by default, but I believe you can get an add-on/plug-in/extension/doodad that does...
This is how some of those 'internet accelerators' work - they don't actually speed up the connection, just use it more efficiently...
