FORT LEWIS, Wash. - A soldier who reported that she was sexually harassed by noncommissioned officers and refused to return to Iraq will face a military trial.

Fort Lewis' commander referred Army Spc. Suzanne Swift's case to a special court-martial, Army officials said Wednesday.

Swift, 22, of Eugene, Ore., was charged Sept. 27 with missing movement and being absent without leave. She  had been harassed & abused by three noncommissioned officers — two in Iraq and one at Fort Lewis. She reported that her supervisor in Iraq coerced her into a sexual relationship.

Swift, a military police officer with the 42nd Military Police Brigade, returned from serving a year in Iraq in February 2005. Her unit was sent back this past January, but she refused to go and hid for roughly five months.

Swift was arrested at her home in Eugene in June.

No date has been set for the court-martial, Fort Lewis spokesman Joe Hitt said Wednesday.

Keith Scherer, Swift's lawyer, did not immediately return a message Wednesday.

Swift faces a maximum punishment of a one-year confinement.

If you hear her mom talk, she went to her EOE, her 1st SGT, and even broke the COC...  They were going to re-deploy her w/ the same people who raped her...  Just watch the youtube.com videos and see for yourself...  Have a heart bro...

Dude. No.  There is no way in hell she could not have done this the right way.  Sounds to me like an excuse not to go back to Iraq.

do you know how fucking one sided the army is when it comes to sexual harassment?  it is so totally one sided.  if there was ANY kind of weight to her accusations they honestly would have been dealt with swiftly.  ive been witness to even the smallest sexual harassment infraction has ruined 20 year careers.  she dont wanna go back, plain and simple.

I know of males that have been raped by other male soldier's...  The Army will cover shit like that up in a heart beat.  Put yourself in her shoes for once.   She tried all she could...  They just didnt care...  She did what she thought was right...  She said she would rather go to jail than be raped again.  Anyone would do the same thing!

two things here.. one.. they dont play about sex while being deployed... even if its consenting you can get in some serious shit for it... and that includes if your married...... and sexual harassment is a BIG BIG BIG deal ... honestly if your chain of command is snow balling you that bad you have a right to see anyone you want.. and you better believe i would be kicking down the commanding generals door the next day...

Yep, no support coming from here either for going AWOL.  Going AWOL is one of the fastest ways to land yourself in some deep shit.

Now as for the sexual harrassment stuff.  Something should have been done yes.  But I agree with usmarine, get a lawyer and let it be known to everyone that nothing was done.  Something will get done.

It is your god given right for you opinion...  And usually I would argee until my fingers are bleeding.  But I dont want to make this a negative thing.  I was in the Army twice myself & I have seen people go AWOL for stupid shit...  Sometimes for similar reasons as Suzanne...  +50 karma to her!  She was scared & her fuckin COC was useless to her.  She went AWOL, got an attorney, & worked it from there.  She was leaving for Iraq A.S.A.P.  She didnt have time...  She wasnt supposed to go back to Iraq for 18 months...  They cut it short on her & was sending her back within days...  I love her & I think she did the right thing!

an E-7 I knew made a pass at a female E-5 out of a drunken stupor.  with the quickness this guy was busted down to e-6 along with one of his joes who just witnessed the event.   there was no he said she said, it was all she said she said.  she could have been lying and he still would have been in deep shit.  and this chick had the reputation of being loose around the higher ranking nco's.  I just cant believe that her chain of command would have conspired to sweep this under the rug when officers LOVE LOVE LOVE to look good for the brass by throwing NCO's who have been suspected of doing wrong in with the sharks.  Im sorry but I dont believe the story and it pisses me off.  I try to be as open about females in the military and im far from sexist but god damn this shit makes me sick when a female soldier could just throw the rape card when things arent going her way in the military.  AWOL is bad but Im not gonna judge any soldier on that because all people are wired differently and the AWOL person knows the consequences and repurcussions.  go back, face the music and chapter out or soldier on but dont give bullshit ass lies about being raped by fellow soldiers just because you're scurred

I feel ya brotha, but this case is different.  This really happened.  I worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons for awhile & we are sent to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, GA for 3 weeks.  While I was there this woman fell for his one guy, one thing led to another & they hooked up.  Well she claimed he raped her after she found out she was pregnant.  Did I mention they both were married?  Anyways, after it was all over it came out she said that becuz her husband flipped.  They BOTH lost their jobs.
