old tech, i wouldnt really spend a lot of money on it. you could use it as a file server or something of that nature. what are you planning on doing with it.

Whats your graphics card.
Well when you buy hardware there is a manual that mentions how much the motherboard can take.
like ram and speed of it and so on.

The motherboard sounds a bit old, and is the CPU that comes with it an Athlon XP 1900+?  If so, I didn't know they went that low.
Also, are there only 3 RAM slots on the MB?  (That's all I can see in the pic).

Edit: Make sure the PSU has PCI-E connections (assuming your graphics card is PCI-E), but 500W should be fine.  Regarding the motherboard, see if you can find an Asus A8N series, they should be fairly cheap now, and are pretty good.

I ran BF2 on my 1700 XP with a crappy mobo and 512mb RAM, as long as you have more RAM you should be good

I used to have that motherboard, I've been through a few since then though. It's a nice motherbaord, the onboard Dolby Digital is a nice touch. But it's OLD.

I have that motherboard at the moment and haven't had any problems, but its old now and I am changing it for this one - http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInf … ctID=14829

This means I can upgrade the CPU to a conroe core duo, but still keep my AGP graphics card and ddr 400 ram, which will save me alot of money and this MB give me the option of getting a PCI-E Graphics card at a later date.

Hope this helps.

That's about the best Socket A mobo your going to get.  You are extremly limited to what you can upgrade with the old AMD series chipsets.

You can upgrade to the 64 chipset and it will not break the bank.  It is well worth the money and will increase you performance a ton.

The Asus A8N-SLI SE is pretty good, not much scope for significant future upgrades though. 939 CPUs are going very cheap at the moment though, which is nice. You can get a 3700+ (San Diego) for around £60-70, which is pretty good value.

If you have more to spend a conroe solution would be preferable though.

I haven't got the CPU as yet , but they were a few other ones out there, it depends on what you already have.

I have an AGP graphics card and DDR400 ram so I needed a MB that support them and I got lucky with this one because it has what I needed and supports Core Duo CPU and has options to upgrade to PCI-E later on.

It really just depends on what you want to keep it your PC and what you want to add, I haven't the money for a full upgrade, but this MB had what I needed with a bonus on better CPU support.
