Well I figured I would continue from where I left off last week in which I went and saw 13 (TZAMETI). I must say this movie was not as gory as I thought it was going to be, all though it was the most intense movie I have seen in a long time.

Anyways this weeks movie is based on the novel 300, by Frank Miller. The book was very graphic and from watching the trailer which was released today it seems like the movie will be to. I am really looking forward to this movie, and if you have not read the novel I highly recommend it. Yes I know it will not be released till next march, but that gives you all plenty of time to read the book. Also there are not any good movie being released this week. Babel comes out towards the end of October and it looks half way interesting so stay tuned next week and I will try to put together a better review of it.

Well i've finished downloading the French Version... with an SRT subtitle file so I'm covered (even though I should practise my French.)

I don't have time to watch it tonight, I'll get a review in in a few days. (is 'in' acceptable twice in that sentence?)

Well... wow.

That was... different.

It's a bit slow moving at the start, but if you've watched the trailer you'll want to keep watching to get to that scene. And from around 30 minutes in until the end, there's a lot of suspense and tension.

Since Marlboroman didn't really write a review for 13 Tzameti... I will. Mainly because I recommend it.

So.

The story starts with a young man from a poor family, struggling to earn money by doing odd jobs, like fixing a man's roof. He's poor enough that when his client dies before he pays him, he's desperate and learns of a new hope. Overhearing a conversation, he learns that the man was in something that could get him a lot of money, and now that he's dead, the young man decides to take his place. Of course, he has no idea what it's all about...

That's the story synopsis.

The acting is quite good, even though there isn't much needed for the majority of the roles. Nearly all the sadistic inhumane spectators act sadistically inhumane and unnaturally dead. But that fits their roles. The 'players', the characters who everyone is focused on, each have their own semi-developed personality. #13, the star of the movie, is an excellent actor and was able to portray his emotions to the viewer in a way that people can connect to.

It's quite intense for the middle scene, and although you can sort of foresee what will happen (but only slightly, like the way you'd foresee Mario to defeat Bowser), the scene is just so intense and scary that you stay hooked anyway. After the story seems to be over, forgotten people come back to haunt the story and make it even better. The movie is in black and white, but that adds to the whole early 20th century Noir feel, even though this takes place in modern times. The camera works is excellent, positioning and perspectives that add to not only the situational atmosphere but also the emotional feel of the characters.

I strongly recommend this movie, it's not the best way to pick up French (as some of the speech is muttered and mumbled) so download an .SRT subtitle file and use your suitable video player (i recommened VLC) to play it with the English subtitles. This'll be a great way to spend a weekday evening, and definately going to stay on my HDD.

When I was your age, they would say you could become cops or criminals. What I'm saying is this: When you're facing a loaded gun, what's the difference?

Well it's that time again. All right where to begin? Ok if you have not all ready guessed the movie I chose is called The Departed directed by the one and only Martin Scorsese. The first thing I want to point out about this film, and something that is a big deal to me, is the music. The original scores and songs chosen for the film are a perfect fit. One would have thought Cameron Crowe selected the music for this film it's that good.  This film Also boast stellar performances by it's all star cast.

The basic outline of the story is this - The Departed is set in South Boston, where the state police force is waging war on Irish-American organized crime. Young undercover cop Billy Costigan (DiCaprio) is assigned to infiltrate the mob syndicate run by gangland chief Frank Costello (Nicholson). While Billy quickly gains Costello's confidence, Colin Sullivan (Damon), a hardened young criminal who has infiltrated the police department as an informer for the syndicate, is rising to a position of power in the Special Investigation Unit. Each man becomes deeply consumed by his double life, gathering information about the plans and counter-plans of the operations he has penetrated. But when it becomes clear to both the mob and the police that there's a mole in their midst, Billy and Colin are suddenly in danger of being caught and exposed to the enemy-and each must race to uncover the identity of the other man in time to save himself. But is either willing to turn on the friends and comrades they've made during their long stints undercover?

I was a but skeptical at first because of the buzz surrounding this movie, but it definitely delivered. I really  don't want to give anything away though so I am going to cut this short. I do want to mention however that out of all the big name talent I though Ray Winstone stole the show. Finally, the movie runs long so be prepared.
