BF2 just suddenly half uninstalled itself? Maybe no but it kinda seems that way.

I was playing then got off to go eat and come back to play a round or two and the game starts up then immediately stops responding and I have to CTRL ALT DEL out.

I tried taking the disc out and putting it back in (thinking that maybe it's just the shortcut that's fucked somehow. It autoruns and this is what comes up:

Why would the 'Play Now" and and "Start BF2" buttons fade out like that all of a sudden?

yeah, it's when im joining the acocunt server it just sits there and then it goes not responding...
Must be happening to select people, or maybe EA is just to excited that 2142 demo is comin out that they forgot to pay the electric bill at the server locations for BF2

There has been a few reports about the accounts not logging in, maybe there updating stats or something canceling maybe?

Yep. When I try to log in now it just sits at the account server screen and wont log up. Getting pretty annoyed.

This is how mine always looks. Apparently if you move the BF2 shortcut, autorun can't find it and doesn't allow you to click those two options.

I put BF2 on my other hard drive. I just created a new shortcut. Sure, I can't click "Play Now" or "Play Online", so instead I just click the shortcut.

I think Stats of 2142 are been set up and BF2 ones are about to be canceled, but i don't care i stooped playing for stats.

Weird. I used another short cut and it works perfectly now.

I had trouble with this too, but a VERY old thread helped me out regarding ~e5.0001 helped me out.

Get a GameSpy Arcade account (which requires a quick download, no big deal) and you'll be able to get in that way. Startup time was a little longer, but at least it worked and I can play again.

I hope whatever is going on at EA is sorted out soon, because we shouldn't have to use another program to access a game we already own.

have u not tried the shortcut in the folder

if that dont work then your gonna have to edit some registry keys to make your computer realise its there

ill edit my post and tell you how to do it when ive found it out

this is what fixed mine when it did this same thing, use your SF CD to boot BF2, should work, Vanilla too.
