As everyone heard you can save your name from bf2 to bf2142. But when i do this it jumps to a page and says Dissconnection Failure and something about a virus.

Well ca you still reserve your rank without the veterans program
probably not. it also just reserves your name, not your rank. in addition to a little start next to your name to show that you've been in the bf2 tour of duty...which everyone will have.

at least ea and co woud have actually sorted the game out by 2142, just a random comment, but if you are from the uk it was taking a little while to get us sorted, i just waited till i got an ad in the game splash and registerd fine
