ok. i'm gonna be getting a widescreen monitor and have been "searching" these forums about bf2's incompatability with widescreens. so i'm reading about the adding +##### here and there to the bf2.exe file. My problem is, i don't see a file named bf2.exe. is this the same as the startup icon that is in my bf2 folder? if it is this is the file i added a "1" to, in order to help with the game speed (other tutorial). I have the file circled in the picture. so am i right or am i wrong, and where do i add the necessary mumbo jumbo to the file in order for it to read a widescreen monitor?

please help, i know this is a noob question. or would i just be better to go non-widescreen?

so do i just add the +1440 +900 stuff to the line i put the "1" on? and if so what all do i write, assuming i have a 1440 x 900 monitor?

disregare, i now see the "target" area where i need to add the stuff. i wasn't looking on my desktop icon. silly me. but thanks though.

No, you are right, go for widescreen, the game looks funny when its stretched, although I cannot take a screenshot of this because it corrects the aspect ratio when you do....

Now to change to widescreen

Ok....first of all, you dont need to change the .exe. I hope you have a working shortcut for BF2, otherwise make one now. Go find the shortcut, in the start menu or on the desktop and add to the target box" +szx 1440 +szy 900" Preferably change all your BF2 shortcuts. This should be the settings for your monitor, you can copy paste the entire quote, inculding the first space right on the end of what you currently have.

Here is what mine looks like for my 16:10 laptop.

Note that the text has changed to fit the resolution, however the minimap has not. This is standard. The rest of the game has also changed into widescreen, but some of the HUD's for vehicles won't. All in all the game looks great in widescreen, but remeber with those large resolutions comes increased load on your video card.

P.S. So long as you dont change the video settings in the game the resolution will be what you set it. If you decide to change the game will reset to whatever resolution its at in the video settings, just restart the game with the modified shortcut and all will be fine. Do not run BF2 from the autorun menu, it will resort to the regular resolution as well, but why would you take the disk out anyhow?

This change only applies to BF2, do not assume it will work with all your games, try thist forum for all your widescreen gaming needs.

ok, got my ws today (1440x900) and i cannot get bf2 to boot if i add the "szx and y to the task bar on the desktop shortcut. i tried numerous times to no avail, the screen would just be black and i would have to reset. i can log on the normal way so any suggestions? help please.

Be sure you have the WS switch added correctly in the shortcut:

1 +szx 1440 +szy 900

Also keep in mind that you don't need to make any other changes. Do not make any changes to the resolution with the in-game settings, as this will undo the shortcut setting.

Are you sure your video card has support for 1440x900? Have you updated your video drivers recently?
