Alright just booted up my hard drive on my other computer and i get a message saying Windows can not load because the windows/something/sytem/config is missing or corrupted.  So i try a Repain install but i get a message saying there is no hard drive : |    Is my hard drive dead?

Try taking the hard drive out and hooking it up to another computer and running checkdisk on it.

You know how to do all that or do you want some directions?

How far into booting up does it get before it gives you that?

I'd still try running chkdsk /F from another machine if I were you. If it is the hard drive failing, that should confirm or deny it. Your next option is reinstalling windows. Have you messed with the BIOS or anything lately?

uh...just hook it up to the other computer and check which drive letter it assigned it in My Computer, lets say it's D:

Go to start-->run-->type cmd and hit enter

Then, in the command prompt, type

Code:

chkdsk d: /F
and hit enter

It sounds like your master boot record could have been corrupted. It's not so hard to fix if you still have your windows disk, or if you have a copy of a linux distro on Live cd. If you have neither, you can go to a internet cafe and download Knoppix and burn one there, but really all that allows you to do is save all the info you have on the hard drive right now. Without the Windows cd, you can't rewrite the MBR, and your data could be lost.

Do it from your windows install disk. Make sure you don't do it quick, do it the long way.

Yes, I forget the exact option names when creating one. But one of the options is quick,do not select that one. Your HD is probably fine it's just not properly partitioned.

I know what system32 .exe your talking about.  once that sucker disappears your HD is gone.  you can try reinstalling it all you want with the utility junk, but it won't fix it.  sorry dude.
