I don't know if this helps out many of you, but I found it quite helpful for me:
If you plan to play the BF2142 demo, take some 45 seconds (or whatever) first to reboot the PC and play only after a restart.
I discovered that after playing BF2 and other games, after probably using my mailclient and stuff, I lost connection in almost every round of 2142 I played. When playing after just having restarted, I did not have any problems and could play several rounds in a row.

Another little thing that might or might not help is assigning a fixed IP adress to your computer if you're connecting to the internet with a router and used to have internal IP adresses assigned via DHCP.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, don't bother trying cause you might find yourself unable to connect to the internet again without some more troubleshooting.
