Another one of my Friends PCs. (they're pretty problem prone...)

Right, he did a reformat, and it boots to Windows. Well, not really, it shows the default desktop, but no taskbar/processes running, he just installed x64, any ideas?

Never come across anything like this before, all my PCs work fine...

can you start explorer form task manager (control+shift+esc)

when you say you he just installed "x64", did he ...

just install an x64 processor, and reinstalled x64 windows

just install an x64 processor, and did not reinstall windows

does not have a x64proc, and reinstalled x64 windows

Sorry, He has a 64 bit Processor and just recently installed x64 for the first time.
