Just wondering though... A similarly spec'ed IBM compatible PC.. how much would THAT run you in comparison to the MAC ?
The only reason I haven't gone mac is the price (ok, and the games are more expensive for mac, but that's price too)

you would think 3d studio max would be on the mac ...pndragon26 wrote:
That whole "I like right clicky" argument is lame, and ignorant. Shows you have no idea about the topic. Been using a two button mouse on my mac for 8 years. And other than 3D MAX have not found one program (other than games) that is not also made for mac, or there is a better mac equivalent.
Mac for work, PC for games.

That is not just the monitor, that is the whole system.explosivo wrote:

nice monitor though
ERmmmmmmmmmm Macs are PCs now... Intel based processors, you're paying for the box and the OSx, I have a mac and love it, but now there isn't much of a dividing line. I love macs and Pc's wh00t!
Edit: Oh, nevermind...EricTViking wrote:

Serious question, why buy a Mac over a PC? All i've ever heard is "ease of use", but it seems like that just imposes more limitations.

fool
There is no reason other than personal preference.iNeedUrFace4Soup wrote:

If you like Mac styling and design go for a Mac.
On the other hand if you want an almost unlimited choice of styling and the widest possible software base go for a PC.
A lot of designers and musicians still prefer Macs but that's mainly down to traditions within the industry rather than price or performance.

I'm going to ask, and this is aimed at no one in particular, but do any of you who have posted in this thread know jack about actual Macs, instead of what you heard 16th-hand through your great-uncle Bob or through a PC ad?
I know a reasonable amount about Macs, they have their fair share of pros and cons as do PCs.
Personally I think the biggest problem Macs have is their userbase ;-p

I know what you mean by most of the comments ... my issue is ... comparisons are always hazy .. since when you say "PC" are you talking about hardware vs hardware or are you arguing the OS.k30dxedle wrote:

As far as the latter is concerned once you reach a certain competency level, the OS become really irrelevant (assuming it supports your needs). In my experiences I see none of these problems that are so notorious (or were notorious over 6 years ago). Lets face it ... look @any windows OS, kde or gnome for whatever distro, and mac OS .. all have the same basic elements ... the rest are bells and whistles, nice to haves.
IMO as far any PC you can buy already assembled (dell, etc), macs are very well built (clean looking, sturdy and very quiet).
Pre-built PC < Mac < Build it yourself PC
Updated orginal post!
yea i have my macbook pro i use for everyday task, plus light gaming when i travel, then i have my pure gaming rig at home running xp, and i also have my server and firewall which run ubuntu.

Will someone enlighten me as to why it seems a MAC with the same speed hardware runs any better then a PC with that hardware!!?? I mean seriously. If i buy each peice and part of a mac and assemble it and put windows on it your tellin me the mac will run faster. i doubt that.

why do you have a mac and use all the things a normal pc uses?

macs own. They can run both OSs. Therefore they are so much better than PCs. OS X is so much better than windows anyways.
From what I have read, Apples hardware actually runs Windows better than a windows machine.
Yes it can. One of the reasons is that if a program is coded properly it can run faster. Look at programs like Dreamwaver, or FrontPage. When you use these programs, it seems to take longer to load a web page. Why? They add a lot of additional code into the orginal code. That is the same with OSes. If you have additional code that is not needed, you still have to have processed, and that takes up resources. Even though it maybe a small amount of resources, over time it adds up.Dezerteagal5 wrote:

Also, Windows was designed to make it easier for people to program on their platform, for a long time Apple would either program you app for you (for a fee), or have a lot of control over your software. This made the programs run quickier on a Mac, where on the PC you could write sloppy code and get away with it.
does wine and bf2 mix very well?
