When the commander is using his toys he is very vulnerable to attack unless he can see ahead of time with the scan if an enemy is aproaching, do you think if it will be better off if you could have a transparent map where you can see through?

I hate being nailed everytime when you are busy helping your team.

Use the scan...

Come off of the command screen regularly...

Well, thats what you pay for being a commander if you do your job.
Of course there are commanders out there who think they gain points by killing people with their gun and it will count towards their doubled score in the end, but if you are a commander, the only score you would get is from commanding. So those of you who are riding vehicle and running around killing people as commander, you need to stop doing that and let your team do the job and you provide great support for them to try bring your team to the victory in that round.

Anyway, back to the topic, if commander can have that transparent map, I think it will be giving commander too much power almost. The point of having commander stuck on the commanding screen while commanding is so that he IS DEFENSELESS so that other team can come and nail him. It is part of the game and part of your commander life if you choose to become one. Also you have that awesome scanning ability which I think is almost like a cheat but I wouldn't babble too much about that. If you think you are getting owned too much by the enemy assassins coming to kill you while you are commanding, you can stop your commanding for a little while and try to defend yourself or just don't become a commander in the beginning, this way you don't have to get nailed while you are commanding and nail others instead.

Go hide under a roof or in a building or something, scan every time the scan is loaded instantly, I don't know what you're talking about tbh, what map are you playing that you regularly get owned on as a commander? Sure as hell isn't karkand...

Go hide? My tactical approach is commanding from inside an apc, sporting 2 squad leaders, that drop a continues stream of reinforcements.

UAV, Arty, Sat scan and infantry support all in one.
I just want the job done, I don't care about mine or your points, a win is a win. Teamwork has the upperhand above score.

Well hiding more carefully, if possible, is a good start. But you have to protect your own ass when commanding since nobody else is going to do it. Probably every player in the world who has any significant amount of command time has been killed while hiding (although it's a lesson you learn pretty quick!)

For any map where the commander is vulnerable (Karkand is one of the worst, for the commander on either side) he needs to run scans constantly and pay attention. On the game I got vet ground defence in, on Karkand, I protected my ass, and my assets, about five times from a spec ops player.

What if he comes at you from behind?

I don't think that having the map semi-transparent would be a good idea overall since it can be hard enough to see in detail what's going on at times.

I agree in general that commanders should command, but it does depend on the map and the player load. My highest score was achieved as fighting commander on Warlord, IO, with 14 players and the 54 kills I made (many of them flag defences) sure as hell helped my team to win.

I agree with you about the fact that commander needs to be able to defend its territory with whatever means necessary. That includes defending a spawn point where you are commanding from, or one near it, especially on a small player server (since you cannot rely on others to defend you all the time). The kinds of commanders that I am talking about are those who think they gain more points by actually killing opponent players with their gun. This was true back in the old days like Patch 1.0 and a little later, but now commanders only get their points from commanding its team and there is a formula out there to know exactly how much point you will generate.

Roger that. And it can be all too common to see someone fighting so much they neglect (or totally ignore!) their command duties, which sucks when you're trying to get UAV or supply crates.

no just jump in your teams tank and command from there who cares what your team says hopefully they arent coming in with spec ops You can just explain to your team how in real life a commander would be in a bunker somewhere commanding not standing in the middle of a street by himself for 20 mins straight. They will then understand and they will not bother you again.

whenever I go commander I pick the sweetest available spot that's close enough to assets to defend/repair if necessary. Nailing down specops while theyre bitching around on my toys is the only time I get out of commander screen. that's what commanders do. that's what the team expects them to do. but maybe it's just me...

Find a building or a roof, hide, mine the entrances. The most important thing is that the enemy doesn't see you immediately when he comes near you. On most maps the guard towers in your base are a good spot. On maps like Mashtuur or Karkand I often sit in a dropped vehicle which allows me to have a good defense against sneaking infantry...

If you are in close combat be sure to use the "T" buttom to quickly get up the quick command tools stuff.

Otherwise, find the most emptiest spot in the world where they would never look at and hope that the enemy isn't after you.
