I like BF2142... it's refreshing.... I like the fact you can actually engage in a battle with someone (instead of the "who's the faster on the trigger" that you have with BF2).

the way i see it is that it is all the cause of the BF2 whiners.
they whined about medics getting too many points:
they make the defibs an unlock and reduce the points for a revive to 1.
they whined about nade spammers:
they made grenades an unlock.
they whined about bullet drop:
they removed it.
they whined about the accuracy of the assault rifles:
they reduced the accuracy of everything.
if you complained about something in BF2.. you've only got yourself to blame.

Sure, there are about 5 new things. But what if I just want to have the stuff I had in the last game?
Now, you are pretty much stuck playing one class. Unless you fully upgrade one class 6 times (this gets you all the stuff you had in BF2), then you will be a gimp. Your guy will be a piece of shit. It will be impossible for newbies to get into the game, since they will have nothing, and the pros will have everything.
Vehicles have a huge advantage now, even bigger than in BF2. Where did the C4 go? Where did the AT mines go? Gone for everyone who didn't unlock them. Now we are forced to use the shitty AT rocket launcher to get kills, and that thing is uselsss.
My solution is to give everyone every piece of equipment that they had in BF2. For example, all recons can have C4, all assaults can have a GL, etc. The things that you can unlock only slightly help you, but things you didn't get in the last game.
The sprint boosters were good ideas. More unlocks like that would be better. Maybe there should be a "no armor" unlock that increases your accuracy and speed, but decreases your health. Some things that don't help you that much, or things that let you play the game in a completely different way should be added.

It's NOT THE SAME, it's not meant to be. If you don't like change, why not keep playing BF2?
Now that part of my rant is out of the way [sorry about that], onto my point.
To get all the things you have mentioned above [including the carbine to play spec ops as it was in BF2] you only need 11 unlocks.
That means you need 1991 points. That is not 1000 hours of game play, that 20-25 hours to get all that stuff.
And even a casual player can do that in a 2-3 weeks.
Besides, only the C4 and shock paddles are primary features of any of the BF2 kits that are now unlocks. Claymores don't make a sniper, the sniper rifle does, just like mines & GL launchers don't make the assault or engineer classes, and the support class only has the grenades missing.
IE with 2 unlocks, shock paddles, and grenades you can play as any of the BF2 classes except spec ops.
