i'm a bit of a n00b when it comes to overclocking, and i'm insanely afraid to break anything, so i'd appreciate a little help

will overclocking my system bus likely cause any damage? (going from 201 mhz to 202 jumps my processor mhz 10, and so on per every 1

what about applying a cpu multiplier?

or changing the voltage for my agp?

or the one above that that says "66" (it has to do with agp)

specs:

radeon built 9550
athlon 3000+
gigabyte g8-kns
350 watt psu

i have a 120mm case fan, btw, and standard heatsink and fan on my processor. its something like 65-75F degrees in my room right now too, if that makes a difference.

Bump the FSB by 5 slowly until system crash, then bump it down a bit till stable. also run SP2004. Remember to turn the memory multiplier down a bit. If your running an AMD bump the HTT down to 4 or 3.

Don't touch the AGP frequency. More than likely it'll just cause problems.

The main point to keep in mind with overclocking is stability and temperature. Running at too high a temperature is the best way to kill a CPU. Good rule of thumb is to keep your load temp at or below 50ºC.

Clean your fan if you haven't recently.... overheating will destroy everything.

he's not lying. I ate sphagetti once, decided to OC my processor, lets just say this computer I'm using is not the one I tried overclocking. It's in computer limbo.

I have been OC for years, I am still learning. Yes it is not very hard to break/fry something. You NEED to read a lot before even attempting to do it. Google it "Overclocking noobs" and you will find a lot. You need to know exactly how everything works to get a good handle on what you should and should not do.

Also ask yourself this "If I fry my cpu/mobo can I replace it right away? Can I live without a comp for a week?" If the answer is no, don't OC.
