Cursing while in a conversation is one thing. It is impulsive and audible. You can hear the tone and understand it's meaning clearly. When you have to take the time to think it then type it, it no longer becomes impulsive, it is more thought out. Makes it lose a lot of it's meaning. Also, the inability to actual hear it said leaves it to the reader to try and determine how the word should be taken. Basically being interpurted as rude and the sender being concidered a prick.
Just because one person doesn't mind you cursing like a sailor doesn't mean everyones cool with it. Muster up a little dignity, self control, and common sense and just don't type curse words. It is that simple. This is an old topic that has been discussed more than once.
I think there should be a filter but, it should be universal and in accordance to the games teen rating. Basically just censoring a handful of obvious curse words. No need to list them. Letting admin make therir own is a bad idea.
The only time I even use chat is when I command. Other than that I am to busy shoot and, don't care enough to talk smack. It's a game. Why care so much.
