Graphic Card issue?

I'm not really sure if it's attributed to the card or what actualy is causing the problem...

Whenever I'm playing a game about 15minutes into any game, my screen shows a checkerboard pattern of green and black squares, then my computer either restarts or locks-up completely. If anyone could provide me with any insight as to what may be the issue it would be greatly appreciated...

X800 XL 256mb PCI-E
2Gb (2x1Gb) Corsair RAM
2.8 Pentium D (Zalman Heatsink + Fan)
ABIT IL8 Mobo

same prob with my x700 but only on startup,finally fried it now I'm on my 6100 which is a pos but runs fine

1. Go over to Office Depot, or a similar supply shop, and buy a can of compressed air. Roll your rig outside, stick it on a table, open it up and blow all the dust out, taking extra care to clean out the fans and heat sinks, and your video card.
2. Download new video drivers (www.guru3d.com is convenient), clean out your old ones with Drivercleaner 3.0 (using provided instructions), and install the new ones.
3. Download a new copy of DirectX 9.0c (Microsoft stupidly has multiple versions of 9.0c, rather than just changing it to d, e, f, and so on).

Also:

1. Inspect your drive(s) for malware. Multiple threads on this exist in these forums.
2. Run Defrag or another hard drive optimization application.
3. Run memtest86 to verify the condition of your RAM.
4. If your CD/DVD drive has been making funny noises or taking a long time to read discs, perhaps it's time to grab a new one ($30).

Definately a heat issue, Either your fan is clogged, or its weak or not working at all. If it were anything like the cards memory heating it would be a snow effect, so the pattern you describe is definately heat related. Have same card sitting on shelf.

Turns out it was a driver issue over everything else, as I suspected. OP's issue has been resolved with Drivercleaner 3.0 and an update.
