I have  been unable to login to the account server for over a week now and I have to say it is starting to p*ss me off....I just get stuck at the Connecting to account server screen...which stays on happily until I decide to reset the machine after waiting nearly 15 minutes. I got a new internet connection about a week ago as well, but I did all that was required, reset the modem, turn the router on/off etc...still stuck at that dumb screen. I was able to play the demo of 2142 without a hitch...still no bf2...anyone got any ideas as to what I could do ??
Sorry if I post it under the wrong topic or whatever...just really mad that the game won't work...

Two possible causes:

1) Firewall.
2) Necessary ports are not open.

I am quite sure it is not the firewall....ports as in the ports of the router I am using right??

Also I was able to play with the other connection I was able to play just fine. It is from the same provider...only a tiny bit slower then my first one..no big difference there....

ok this is getting really weird....I just tried to log in under the account of my brother in law and I got in just fine....It is just refusing to log into my account for some reason...what can I do...It is clearly not a matter of system configuration.....but what is it then?

Hi,

Try this from EA

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts. I’m sorry for the difficulty that you are having with the game.

We found that users with VIA motherboard chipsets for AMD and Intel CPUs will encounter crash or installation issues with the game. There is an update you'll want to get from VIA that addresses a few known issues with their systems in particular causing lockups and other issues in several high end games.

This page has info that you should look into as a possible resolution to your issue. If you should run into any trouble with installing these drivers, VIA has an Install guide and a Help Forum which should be able to guide you through the installation.

Not having the correct VIA drivers could manifest itself in the form of a "Serious Error" message, and/or a blue screen crash.

Connection issues typically are caused by one or more ports being blocked by a firewall, router, or even your Internet Service Provider to help maintain security.  These ports are the doorways used to send and recieve information between your computer and the server.  You must configure your router/firewall to have the game's ports open in order to connect to the servers properly.

The ports for Battlefield 2 are as follows:

UDP ports:

27900
29900
29910
27901
55123
55124
55215
16567
1500-4999
18060

TCP ports:

80
29900
29901
29920
28910
4711
18060

You may also need to have your Internet Service Provider open these ports for you.  For help configuring a firewall or router you may need to refer to the manufacturer.

GameSpy has it's own requirements for ports.  You may want to check the requirements listed in the Working Around the Firewall/Proxy section of their site.
