Can't really recommend any more than everyone has already listed, although I will encourage you to go for Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, and Demons and Wizards, (the last being a collaboration between the other two.) They have some excellent songs and the style and quality of play is fantastic.
ya holy shit how can u say a7x is not metalJimmyBotswana wrote:

and no, A7X is no metal at all, just freakin pop-music-flavor-of-the-month-guns-and-roses-wanna-be
If you want to try something different too, there is Trans-Siberian Orchestra, which is rock/metal-orchestra. Excellent band. Or the power-metal opera style of Avantasia, founded by Tobias Sammet of Edguy.
I could add to my list Hammerfall, Manowar, Angra, Luca Turilli and Sonata Arctica.
I mostly listen to European power metal nowadays, moved away from my thrash/death metal roots

Hm, I wonder why you ask for some good metal band and then claim you dont like this band you dont like that band. How should we advice something then? It seems like you´re not very much into metal, because you dislike some of the most famous and brilliant bands of this genre. Sry to say so, and no offence man. I just dont understand why you´re asking for metal bands, because I cant see that you like this music at all. And only listening to one single song will never really show how good a band maybe is.

To appreciate a band you have to go through lots of their work. For example, take Metallica.. if it is your first time you listen to them and have to get an opinion from only one or two songs off of St.Anger, chances are you will hate the band... but then if you give a chance to their previous work, all the way to Kill Em All... there is a good chance you'll become a fan.
One of the band I mentioned earlier.. Stratovarius, their work is quite different from their first album up to the last.
I could even say the same for DragonForce, even though Inhuman Rampage is a great album, I think Sonic Firestorm is even better, and their first is good too. It is similar, but the sound evolved anyhow.

Lol at some "metal" bands posted.
My old school favorites:
Manowar
Helloween - Gamma Ray
Iron Maiden
Metallica
ACDC
But I like different metal geners, like
Blind Guardian
Rammstein
Grave Digger
Korpiklaani
In Extremo
Rhapsody (italian)
Nightwish
Pantera
Stratovarius
Sonata Arctica
Amon Amarth
something of Dimmu Borgir
And more rock than metal
Def Leppard
Saxon
The "nu" in nu metal for bands like SoaD stays for noob metal, aka random noises with stupid lyrics for kiddies.

I tried to avoid the really popular ones already mentioned:
Crowbar (really sludgy, heavy Southern metal... think Pantera slowed down by a factor of 10)
All That Remains (they're doing the whole Gothenburg metalcore thing but they do it pretty well)
Chimaira (newest album is very thrashy and Bay Area-influenced, they're steadily getting better)
Insomnium (melo-death, like In Flames and Arch Enemy, with some of the catchiest guitar work for this genre)
Swallow the Sun (slow, heavy, somber doom metal, but surprisingly easy on the ears)
The Crown (evil Swedish thrash metal)

* any good Norwegian Death Metal recommendations ?
I tend to listen to more breakkore/dnb/etc than metal so curious.
Mention
that
"Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" dvd is pretty entertaining.
