I'd say Dawn of War or Company of Heros for RTS games...
CIV 4 is fun, but it takes an extremely long time to finish a game.
All the Command and Conquer games are fun too, but the older C&C games are better...

UT2004 is still fun for me.  Esp. the onslaught mode.

Half-Life2 DeathMatch is the best DM game since UT2004.

I wouldn't think many people would agree with you on that, but it is a decent multiplayer game.  I dont think it's near as good as UT2004 with all the modes, mods, maps, and customization (not that HL2 DM isn't all of those, just not as much) is has to offer.

ut2k4's number of mods, custom maps, and other such custom content is as much a problem as it is a good thing. every server runs its own mods, you can't connect to anyone without having to download files. the community is fragmented - each custom set of rules has its own little following, which effectively limits the number of servers you can play on if you only want a certain rule set. i prefer a consistent gaming experience - everyone competes under the same rules. it's surprisingly hard to do in ut2k4, and has been the case since ut99.

Yeah, I agree with that for the most part.  I'd say about 85% of the servers have all sorts of mods you gotta download.  And it's pretty annoying for me too.  But I'm ususally still able to find enough servers to play on that aren't modded and have the default game settings.  I know there's a checkbox in the server browser that keeps servers with mods running out of the list and I can always find plenty of servers with that checked.

Go for Dawn of War. Whole lot of sides to choose from with high replay value. Don't forget the expansions.

Its an RTS but really focused on stratigies, you just cant throw everything you have cause its limited, you also dont need to wait around for 30 mins collecting resources either

Try the demo, on Steam

Well worth the money, if you get it, give me or cougar a yell.

Rome: Total War, is a great strategy game and is rated in the mid to high 9's by most reviewers.  Its a good game for thinking strategically in the battles and just lots of plain goodness overall.
