Actually, wrong. If you install the patch while the game is open, it corrupts and you need to reinstall.

I caught an EA news ticker thing saying it after I got it working, as well.
Why would someone istall a patch while the game is running?
When you open the game, it says "click ok to exit and open EA downloader to download the patch". It Doesnt exit, it minimizes. Then when you install the patch, it says "you must close the game to install" but by then its too late.
