Apparently the latest 2142 patch conflicts with a security bugfix Microsoft put out. Head, meet desk.

Ok I fixed it.
This is what I did in steps.
1. Uninstalled KB917422
2. Uninstalled BF2142
3. Deleted Local Content (Server setting, Profiles, etc) including the folder in Program Files
4. Reinstalled Bf 2142
5. Checked if the BF 2142 runs without the patch (successful)
6. Applied BF 2142 patch
7. It miraculously WORKED!!!
