Thing is, Speed no longer has anything to do with it, its how well it process's the info. I have a 1.6 Core 2 Duo, It so totally beats my 3700+ in bootup and apps and games, its depressing. This is in a laptop. I have 54 processes running native on the laptop. Got 25 on the Desktop 3700+ LOL And the 3700 is running at 2.7Ghz. With RAID0 and everything LOL.

Just goes to show ya, Even being a duo, The speed is not a factor anymore. Its all in the Architecture now. But its going to be interesting to see the Higher clocked conroes Fire up.

The CPU front is good for me, by the time I'll be needing an upgrade K8L will be out, and if it does actually "beat" Intel then I can remain loyal to AMD.

GPU front doesn't worry me right now, I won't be upgrading for a while, even if I have to hold off on DX10.

Still, good reading +1

You are partially right in the sense that clocks now are not the only deciding factor. The thing is, a 1.86ghz C2D is as fast as a 4800+ X2, but only when it is at stock speeds. If you OC it, increase the clock speed, it becomes faster than any AMD CPU on the market. So where clocks are not everything, they still factor in speed.

Before making a huge upgrade you have to think if your system can last a bit longer.  If it can because your games look great, then don't waste your money, and wait for the best CPUs and GPUs to be out.  I'm using a P4 2.8 with 2GB DDR 80 GB 7500 Ati X850 Pro and BF2 runs great all in high with AA x 4 with 60-80 FPS.  So, for me it is fine.
