I was bored and so figured out the time needed for me to reach 1 Star from mid way thru 1st Sgt.

At my current rate, I am looking at playing for about the next 5 years......

yep, according to my stats, it will take around 565 years for me to get the aircombat medal.  IT comes down to hours you play and how goo you get at the game.  the better you are the more points you'll get in quicker time. I played AT kit for my first kit until I was about to 100 hours, with a score per minute of 1.6.  After playing in squads and taking the game more seriously (effort wise), Im up to 2.20 score per minute. and thats just a low average of a long run playing like shit added together with alot of teampoint work.

Yea, its not exactly accurate. Its pretty much based on your current SPM. It all depends if you are playing non stop assault/spec ops and then go and medic whore for a long time, which will boost the SPM, earn you more points than usual and get you the rank/award.
Currently, Im being told that I wont get veteran heli for another 70 days...yet that is based on my time in heli over how long ive played the game. Ive been in a heli more in the past 50hours of gametime than in my other 520hours in the game. I reckon I should have veteran heli within 2-4 weeks at the rate Im going.
