Is the Intel® Centrino® Duo = Core Duo?
And which processor would be better for a laptop Turion 64 X2 or Core 2 Duo?

So this lap top would be a core 2 duo?

Intel® Centrino® Duo mobile technology with interrelated Intel® Core™2 Duo mobile processor T5600, Intel® 945GM chipset, Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945AGB network connection (802.11a/b/g) and extended battery life capability

thanks

Yep that is a dual core laptop (altho dont expect it to play games - the graphics is utter shite)

As for which processor is better - 6 of 1, half a doz of the other

That 512 number may look impressive to you but it in reality only 256 is truly devoted to the vpu.

Well, I am not very smart when it comes to computers.  I do know that you will want 2 gb of ram so then pick the best vid card out of the computers with the 2gb.

unfortunately, all the ones there with 2 GB of ram have the worst video cards...i think a good video card > 1gb more ram. the best bet, imo, is the 2nd HP you listed...with the 17" screen....that video card is a beast, and 1gb ram wont kill you...thats what Christmas is for...upgrades.

The above laptop is the most rounded for games/mp3s etc
Dont worry about RAM or HDD size (they can be easily upgraded. Graphics however is generally MUCH harder)

The NVIDIA Quadro FX family features high-end graphics boards, designed for professional 3D applications such as: MCAD, DCC, NLE, and Visualization Applications.
so cyborg... you fail... lol  j/k

Check out reviews from as many sites as you can and you should start to see which laptops stand out....
and talk to people that own the laptop your interested in... they'll tell you if it sucks or not... lol

You can specify what you want at Dell... I played BF2 on a Dell laptop with core duo and it ran great...
i even checked fps and it was 50-70 fps... and there was no stuttering... this was singleplayer.... stock graphics settings...  and core duo is the way to go for now... although you can get some really great deals on AMD laptops(recent price drops due to dore duo coming out) and they are great procs also...
Love is the answer

Yeah I guess it's come down to HP vs Dell for me...
I heard that HP laptops are really bad quality while Dells are better and last much longer...

why do you want a laptop for gaming?

If I were to buy one, buy the hp because you can remove parts from the internal motherboard because almost of not all of dells parts cannot be upgraded or replaced because dell doesn't use the traditional atx parts but there own btx standard parts.

Not really gonna use it for gaming, I only play games when I have nothing else to do or when my friends are all busy, but need a powerful enough laptop to handle engineering programs for college
