Can someone simplify the difference between

ASUS P5B Deluxe

and

ASUS P5W DH DELUXE

I realize the chipset or w/e is different, but what exactly does that mean?

I'm pretty new to most of this crap and don't have much of a clue.

Also, how important is sli?  I want a nice computer, but don't really feel the need to go as far as 2 graphics cards.

Oh and does wifi-ap mean that you can actually run the mobo as a router? or does taht mean you can just pick up a wireless connection.

If anyone would like to suggest a mobo with ddr2 800 and support core 2 duo's w/ 2 pci-express x 16 slots (don't needs sli though) I'm all ears.

Thanks in advance

They have different letters in the name.

The difference is in the chipsets.  The P5B uses the P965X chipset, and the P5W used the P975X chipset.   The three main differences of these chipsets are.

1. The 965 supports memory speeds up to 1066MHz, and the 975 only to 800MHz.
2. The 965 uses the ICH8 southbridge, and the 975 only supports the ICH7 southbridge.
3. The 975 supports Crossfire, and the 965 only a single 16x PCI-e for video.

As for the wi-fi stuff, I just don't know.

Vista will not have any effect on your motherboard.  Your Conroe is more than enough CPU, but if you are planning on going to Vista, I would certainly consider having 2GB of RAM in your system.

I would also be cautious about going to Vista too quickly.  You'll want to make sure that all of your hardware's drivers are Vista compliant and stable.

It says it can.  The original specs of the 975 don't list 1066MHz, but Intel may have revised it.  It's not uncommon for chip makers to make small revisional changes during the life of a product.

Is there an Asus MOBO that has all that (the better alternatives) and supports SLI?

Is P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe any good? Anyone know if it supports C2D's?

That is an nVidia based chipset.  From what I've seen to this point the chipset is mediocre at best.  I'm sure with more time the NV chipsets will get better. Now by mediocre I'm talking about price, performance, stability, compatibility, and overclockability.

However, if you want SLI, going with an nVidia chipset is your only option.
