Well, I'm definately buying a PS3 and I'll need a new TV to go with it. I dont know anything about TV's but I do know that a HD tv would be the best for PS3.

So, Bf2s, what do you recommend.

Price range of around $800

i used to work at an upscale electronics store.....if you cannot find a big screen for that price, which i doubt you will be able to get a QUALITY big screen for that. you might be able to get an AKAI or some crap like that but if you want quality you will need to look at CRTs(tube tvs).
so who makes a good tube tv?
sony probably makes the best, though they are extremely expensive.....if it was me man, i would look into a 30' flat screen sony with HD.............
please get a warranty though, i saw so many tvs break and not get fixed because of people not buying warranties.....might be $100 more but get it, it will save you in the long run.........

sonys too expensive?????
try pioneer CRTs.
hope i could help man. later.
derek.

You could double up dell or apple's large theatre monitors (23'' to 30'') for it with your computer.  If not those I suggest (for UK right) TOSHIBA 26WLT66.  There are a few varietns of that model so get one that you can get the best deal on obviously.  Very quickly on the spec's, its HD ready obv, average pixel rating although that dell and apple I said have greater quality, but I think most importantly of all, 2 HDMI port's.  One for your ps3 and the other for whatever else you will need.  I stress this to anyone no matter what your budget is, make sure it has 2 or more HDMI port's or you are screwed, one's fine I guess, but you need to remember your sky or whatever else you may have.

TOSHIBA 26WLT66 is top end of your budget from prices I have seen, look around kelko to compare quotes and happy gaming when you get it buddy!

What's so funny about that? He could easily get a 26/27" HD flatscreen for that. I've seen 27" HD LCDs with HDMI and all the other interconnects you could want for about £320.

For about £550 you could get something by a decent manufacturer. I wouldn't go with Sony, they are overpriced and the quality of their products has been dropping. Panasonic make some nice ones, Phillips do a few very nice ones.

Personally, when I was in your situation, rather than spending loads of money on a flatscreen. I just bought a projector. DLP, 1280x1024, does 720p HD, for £400 - So now I have a 90" screen in my bedroom. Only problem is you have to replace the bulb every 3000 hours. But that's a lot of hours.

If you think that's taking the piss you've been getting ripped off.

Looking just now it took me about a minute to find an HD flatsceen for £360. It was a Mirai T27004 27". Which has most features you would want and supports 720p, it's from a crap manufacturer and I wouldn't go for something like that personally - but it's an HD LCD screen for very cheap. You can get better deals than that if you look hard.

You can get a 26" Phillips HD LCD from Richer Sounds for £400.

Got my 32" Bravia purring for the ps3

On $800 ~ £420 You'd be in a comprimise of "Bigger sized TV - lesser known manufacturer; risk of quality" vs "Smaller sized TV, well known manufacturer" in exchange for your money.  On the assumption that everything in the states is cheaper than the U.K anyway (), you might be able to stretch for a 23" Samsung HD LCD screen (which is £470 for comparison to converted budget - so estimation is there) or like something mentioned above.  Sorry for the mild number crunching in my post; accounting just never escapes me

edit - just read your user info and you're actually from the uk dollars confused me.  On that basis the ps3 isn't released til 2007 in Europe so i'd just wait as LCD prices will go down after christmas.
