I currently have an AMD Athlon 64 4000+ 2.45 GHz socket 939 processor and onboard Realtek 97' audio.
Which should I buy now? I have about $200 (US)

AMD FX-55 2.6 GHz socket 939 $199

or

Creative Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS Platinum $182.99 w/$100 rebate

I run bf2 fine on all high settings but my processor is near 100% most of the time and my audio is maxed on medium.

i never understood spending so much on a sound card.  i honestly think my onboard audio is quite good.  of course i don't think i've heard bf2 playing from a machine with a good sound card either.   so i would personally go with the real performance booster in the fx-55.  of course i just bought an amd 939 dual core so maybe i'm biased.  i think you'd like the benchmarks from tom'shardware with the fx-55.

The difference in performance between a 4000+ and an FX55 is marginal at best (a 4000+ is basically an FX53 which has had it's overclocking abilities removed...).  Certainly not worth a $200 investment.

Save another $150 and get yourself an E6400/mobo combo (around $350 will easily do it...).  An overclocked E6400 Conroe can give an FX62 a damn good run for it's money at about a third the price.

I'd go for the Audigy. The difference between the FX-55 and what you've got now is not enough to justify the cost IMHO.
