technicaly ok its not a mod but it feels like it because its bf2 with mechs (that if placed in real life, would get owned by 2006 tanks), strange aircrafts (that if placed in rl, would get owned by apaches), and other senseless vehicles.

I believe BF2142 is very borderline for a mod. Your basis is based on perception, not design...
Take a look at the contents of the menu_client and common_client files for BF2142.
They are relatively the same files for BF2. Same design, same structure, and same set of arrays. There is even still BF2 files in the BF2142 client! Never been removed.

The only thing that is new is what is expected to be changed/added such as the titan, weapons, textures, GUI, vehicles, etc... Other than that the programmers just built over the regular design. Nothing new.

The same errors, glitches, & bugs are still noticeable in BF2142 that first appeared in BF2.
A game designer will tell you that BF2142 is more of an extensive mod than it is its own unique game.

Any game that is not built from the ground-up is a mod. The actual meaning of mod means "Modified Engine." It is quite safe to say that Dice did not build 2142 from the ground up, the physics and graphical models are still largely the same. Yes, there is a new mode, but CS, which was originally (and still is) a mod for the Half-Life (and now Half-Life 2, or Source) engine also had a new mode. The underlying drivers and framework BF2 was built on is still largely intact. Therefore, BF2142 IS a mod.

However, most have negative connotations in their head when they think of mod, insofar as most mods on people's minds are developed by small, unorganized, unprofessional groups of code junkies who usually never finish what they start, or if they do, offer only a marginal amount of content compared to the retail release. But think of it like this: CS:S is a mod, and it currently does better than HL2. CS:S can be sold separately because they are both built on the Source engine.

In recap: If two games share similar files, then the latter of the two games is a mod of the first. That's how it is.

But, don't equate mod with shitty game. That, most certainly evidenced by BF2142, is not the case.

Technically it IS a mod, simply because it runs on the SAME (not a modified) engine. Everything else is essentially the same, but it is still a mod. That's not to say they should not have charged 50 dollars for it because it was more extensive than any other battlefield mod (except maybe DC) before it. However, I will say that the in-game ads are just EA being little fuckers scrambling for as much money as possible before gamers begin to boycott all their products and put them out of business (I mean the NFL deal was low enough, but this is just ridiculous).
