Had EA left the building designs intact from BF2 then I would disagree, but since EA decided to incorporate ladders into the designs of just about every freaking building, it realy negates the worth of the grappling hook.

- Grappling Hooks Are Worthless
I disagree. Although EA did go nuts with the ladders.

hah, no way.
grappling hook is incredibly useful imho. sure there r a lot of ladders, but to the good spots or covert ways into the flag(hooking onto roof of the palace in Warlord comes to mind) the hook is king.

The Birdman is hooked on the hook.
GH are really useful -- ladders are set locations to watch, a grapple can happen anywhere. Pft.
You can get BIG FISH with GH:s too. A WHALE SIZE. GOOOOOOD !
i have one issue with it? when i get to the top of a bulding with a railing around it i fall off i taught men had hands to Grab onto things of such? on night fight the airport terminal bulding i fell to my death
If the hook is so useless, try to take the Asylum flag on the 32 and 64 player versions of Devil's Perch without it. I'll give you a clue...the hook is the only way I've found to get to the roof where the flag is. There is no ladder, and no clear shot with a zip line.
Ive never used the hook since I went for my badge for it.
You are meant to take this flag from the balcony, and you can get to that via the stairs.GAK-Blaskowitz wrote:

There can be claymores at a ladder, but no sniper knows the way you will take if you have a hook.
Very funny to see a stat padder complain about something........[g0t]JediPimp wrote:

that is pretty amusing, i like how all his clan mates have high death/kill ratios in regards to him....
you know whats useless, the zipline. I'd much rather have the grappling hook than the zipline, cuz you can basically parachute down from buildings (stupid as hell, but really useful), and most worthwhile horizontal movement can't be performed because you don't get enough momentum. Also, why the hell did they give the Sniper a Zipline? Snipers need to get to elevated positions so they have a better view. There are so many places where I think a sniper would benefit greately from a grappling hook.
nah, a sniper just needs to blend in, high places tend to make snipers stand out...
They are quit usefull
I have lots of fun with the covert tools, mostly the grappling hooks, (Which I reckon Snipers should get, while Spec. Ops should have both Grappling Hook, Zip Line, and sinker.)
Agreed The hooks are good for the sole purpose of being tricky and unexpected. I found it usefull to take out a tricky guy who was firing out of a window on Mass Destruction. He never expected me, and nor did his friends inside the building - they were all looking down.
One thing that does annoy me is people who take back their grappling hook as soon as the have climbed it. They need to check if there is anyone else coming up. I remember trying to follow a guy up, but when I was about three quarters of the way up, he took his line back ad I fell to my death, (well, not death, I had a couple of bars left.)

If not useful for anything else, you can toss the grappling hook on a small object/building from a higher one and leap onto it. Some buildings (such as on ghost town) are close enough to use it to jump from building to building.
