BF2S Forums One of those Nights. Again.

This is something I posted elsewhere a few days ago about a particular night I had recently.  My big problem with this game night in night out is that I never know if I'm gonna actually have fun playing or not.  There aren't too many games I can say that about...  fortunately. 

Anyhow, on to the post:

I'm home from work now, snug and cozy in the house and ready to enjoy the next three days off. Haven't played BF2 in a few days, so I figured I'd kick back, stay warm, and have some fun, right?

This is the story of what just happened when I tried to get me in some good ol' BF2. This is among the many reasons this game drives me so unbelievably crazy sometimes.

I have this never-resolved problem going on with BF2 where often, the first map I load, I'll hit the "join game" button and once the screen comes up the sound starts to stutter and the PC is locked up. This doesn't go on endlessly, but it often stutters for long enough that the machine loses sync with the server, which causes me to be disconnected and have to rejoin. It's really freaking annoying because with only 768 MB of RAM, it takes me FOREVER to load once, much less twice or three times.

Anyhow, this is something I've been meaning to address with EA forever now, but because most of the time I don't have too much of a problem joining servers I've put it off.

Join attempt #1 fails - server full. I've been playing on the same server and having mostly quality games there with no lag and good people, so I've been sticking there. Instead of hunting down another server, I wait a few minutes and a slot opens up pretty quickly. I join, load up, hit join game, stutter, and get dropped.

Grrr. I join again, hit join game, stutter, and get dropped. God damn it. It very rarely does it twice in a row, so I figure third time's the charm. I join, load up, hit join game, and crash to desktop with no error.

Okay, seriously pissing me off now. I've been playin around with my virtual memory settings lately trying to figure out an optimum setting to speed up BF2 loading, so I tell it to set my minimum value at 1.1 gig and reload the game. I join the server, load up, hit join game, and I'm in!

I spent about 10 minutes playing Devil's Perch and went 3-9. 6 of those deaths were teamkills by people from the same clan and two were artillery drops where I spawned right under them and died instantly. As fucked up as it may seem, the teamkills may actually all have been accidental (though for some reason TK punish was disabled). After being tk'ed 3 times in a row, then spawning right under artillery, not to mention fighting some really bizarre rubberbanding lag, I got frustrated and, like I do occasionally when I'm ticked off enough that I don't feel like waiting 5 minutes while my machine caches to unload the map then the game, I just sat back and hit the reset button.

I was originally gonna just quit playing, but I decided to go back into the server and try to find if there was an admin about and I noticed that my resolution was all wacked out. A cursory look around told me that yes indeed, when I hit the reset button it killed my settings... ALL of them. Video, audio, all the controls (including the hackjob I had to perform to get my joystick functioning in the game), everything.

Boy I love to hate (hate to love?) this game.

Flashheart: Nah it seemed like a 'Can't Create Squad' Bug. I managed to do it on EA Singapore with mike down there, but after that I couldn't create a squad on internode, Ea Thailand, Japan and Korea. Weird. Yeah, if you noticed I DID give them vehicles away and run on the groun (note 2 rounds in my least favourite map). And I endured every single cheap trick in the book. Everything.  Heh my siggie was formulated among a couple of friends we were playing scrabble so yeahh.

Tangy Meat Sauce: I'm on 1256 Mbs of Ram. Lol. But recently I've been seeing more problems i.e. Game just shutting down for no reason whatsoever, getting kicked by punkbuster for Loss of Packets Never seen these before. Anyone care to explain?

Mike: Heh. You've gotta catch me on one of my better nights I guess that was a poor showing of my 1337 pilot skillz. I'm thankful that it didn't screw up my K/D ratio (ended around 30:6 if i'm not wrong). *Laughs* Yeahh I was wondering how the HECK I tked you when you were sitting beside me (supposedly). Hurhur it helps to have a jet-moron beside you. Blame everything on him. "Why didn't you spot?", "Why didn't you take out that AA?", "Why are you such a jet-moron?". Haha yes and for the record I blast around at full speed all the time, I hate looping so basically what I do is afterburner through all the tight turns around the smokestacks, nuclear reactors, flying @ sub-50 altitude. Everything that makes a chasing pilot's worse nightamare if you're close enough once I lose control you're going down too . Catch ya around later tonight mike!

Oh. Yes. The TW people. I love raping them in my J-10. its so fun to see them piss in their pants when they suddenly lose 1/3 health and hear a 'thunk thunk thunk' coming from some side as I strafe them and watch them release flares futilely and i'll just loop and fire off a couple of missiles and chase them home.

=PLA=xbox is really good though. The better pilots in Easg are  Me *laughs* , timebomb, velocity, [Koh]ravebyte (if he's around). Yeah. Those are the people I've seen. Its fun when a few of us get into planes. Then the map turns into our playground and its just a raping session.

Sad for you i'm getting increasingly accurate with my fighter bombs I get it 3/4 of the time now if I miss you get the thunk thunk of the MG clobbering your armor to entertain ya.

Do you stay online all night? I should be in sg servers from 12 midnight all the way till 7 tmr morning.

But the bad boys never sleep. So there. *grins*

thai servers are irritating. They yak none stop on VOIP in their scratchy thai voices, they tk for everything, they don't play as a team etc etc. There's no semblance of order in there whatsover. I only play Ea Thai when there's cleansweep. That's when i'll tk for a bomber and stay in there the whole game.

lol now that you mention it...

the thais are damn bloody funny. i joined a squad once and the squad leader and others were like, "wicked tthf! blah blah blah!! (in thai but of course)"
i type: sorry no thai. singapore

then they go, "ohhhh singapore!"
and for the rest of the round they were, "singapore! attack dit one! come wit me!", they would go off in thai then the SL would give me orders in simple english..
they just kept calling me singapore...... lol
didn't play very well, laughing too much..

they speak chinese in singapore?  the gdp for that land size is crazy

on a side note, was playing easg dalian plant a couple of days ago. was PLA, in a tank capping the gas station flag. 3 other team mates roar up in another tank and 2 transports boxing my tank in with no room to move.
in my mind i go 'oh shit'

i have that fear all the time when I hear the roar of the jet engines..and getting boxed in.

Gas Station flag would be Daqing? I like that flag.. i get blown up there more often than anywhere else on that map..
