Wanted to know if anyone has ever experienced this problem.

It all started when I suddenly got a corrupt file error and was not able to even load windows. The file corrupt or missing was  c:\windows\system32\config\system
After many attempts to correct this and stop it from happening again, I finally gave up and backed up all my
data and reinstalled windows. Many searches of the web resulted I others having this problem and not being able to solve it other than a work around of copying the file and replacing the corrupted one. Didn't want to do this every time I got this error, which was about once every three days or after about ten restarts or so.
Now that I reloaded windows, I haven't got the missing or corrupt file error, YET. But now when logging in from the welcome screen, my password protected users will get the pop up to enter the password, but there will not be  a cursor, and you can not type at all. The only thing I can do is restart and what do you know there is the cursor. This usually happens after the system will come back from a standby mode. I have searched the web and that was no help.

Please give me some feedback of what you might think it is or if you have experienced this problem before. Thanks in advance.

I see it often... Its a hardware problem. the file is not consistent because of hardware issues. Usually memory or Mobo is defective.

try that see if it works

If you start your XP system and receive this message, it is caused by a corruption in the registry and may be resolved by carrying out the following instructions:

Enter the BIOS of your PC and set the CD-Rom as the first boot device. Don't forget to save the changes, then exit.

Place your full installtion disk in the CD Drive and at the first option you get press the R key to boot into the RECOVERY CONSOLE.

At the first prompt you will be asked Which installation of windows you want to log onto?

The answer is 1

At the next prompt you will be asked To enter the Administrator Password

The answer is almost always to leave blank and just press the Enter key

At the next prompt type the following; pressing the Enter key after each line:

md tmp
copy C:\windows\system32\config\system C:\windows\tmp\system.bak
delete C:\windows\system32\config\system
copy C:\windows\repair\system C:\windows\system32\config\system

Where C is the partion you have windows installed on.

Type Exit press the return key and your system will reboot - hopefully into windows.

If it doesn't try replacing the word system with software in the above text.

NOTE :Double check you spell everything correctly and you have spaces and \ in the right places

NOT SURE IF THIS WILL WORK BUT GIVE IT A SHOT

Possible work around.:
You can start up without needing to enter a user name or password. Select Run… from the start menu and type ‘control userpasswords2′, which will open the user accounts application. On the Users tab, clear the box for Users Must Enter A User Name And Password To Use This Computer, and click on OK. An Automatically Log On dialog box will appear; enter the user name and password for the account you want to use.

Thanks for the feedback, but those are options i have already tried. None of which correct the problem. Only thing I can figure out is that, it is a hardware related issue. Only problem is I dont know what piece of hardware it is. I have tried switching memory, vid card, nic, everything else is either integrated or I dont have a replacement.
UGGGGHHHH!!!!
Thanks for the help though, I really do appreciate it.
