I was playing Wake earlier today (felt like going back to BF2 for a bit) and was ashamed at the lack of teamwork still rampant. I remember back in 1.02...
FuShe Pass (32 sized-48 players)
My team, the USMC is pinned down on the southern portion of the river, towards the West Mine Entrance. Our commander, a seasoned Staff Sergeant (this is back when it took 10,000 points to reach Corporal mind you) orders my squad of 6 to secure the East Mine Entrance, and stop the enemy from flanking our armor on the south side of the river. My Squad loads up into a pair of DPV's and we speed off to the Location. We find it ungaurded, and quickly cap and set up. Mind you that this was 6 random people (Actually one was a clanmate of mine but w/e) ranked from Lance Corporal to Corporal who had mics and a sense of what was needed. I was the squadleader and the medic, 2 were spec-ops, 2 were anti-tank, 1 was assault. We set up in ambush positions and waited.
Shortly afterwards, a lone APC roles in expecting an easy, ungaurded cap. He is blasted by the TOW when one of my anti-tanks emerges from hiding to pop into it. We thwart another pair of similar attacks before the Chinese Commander begins to take notice of us. After a Z-10 pass fails to produce results and is driven off by our own AH-1Z, the first artillery barrage rains in. One man goes down, while the rest scatter for cover. Once the barrage is over, I quickly revive him, and resume my position inside the office watching the flag. From there, a Chinese Squad attacks from the South, but they are repulsed after a brief but intense firefight involving myself and 2 other squadmates. The scale of the attacks slowly progressed, but each time they were fought off.
We held our position against artillery, infantry, air strikes, and armor for a good 30 minutes thanks to the occasional AH-1Z pass, and supplies and UAV's(when the southern force didn't need em) from the commander, before our end was spelled out. A sniper picked off one of my men in the open. Under a cloud of smoke from the Assault, I rush to his aid. The sniper then wounds a spec-ops, but in doing so reveals his position (near the gazebo on the ridge to our immediate east. I send a spec-ops and a support(formerly an anti-tank) up to flank and neutralize the sniper. After a brief burst of gunfire, the sniper is reported neutralized. Our brief moment of peace is brought to an end, when the Z-10 roars out of the west and cuts the two men down who were winding their way down the path. In the same instance, Artillery came crashing down, and 2 apc's disgorged their troops and a Type 98 rolled in beside them. We gradually fell back into the office building, and waited until we would be overrun. After holding the enemy off for around 3 minutes, we grew dangerously low on ammo, some of us even began using our pistols, or the kits of our fallen enemies. I even grew hopeful when I learned that the West Mine Entrance had fallen, and that help was on the way. But the enemy was relentless.
Just when all seemed lost, the AH-1, 2 LAV's and the ABRAMS appear from the south, guns blazing. At this point the Chinese began to Rout. My squad, left with only 4 of us alive, emerges from cover and begins sprinting to the nearest LAV, still firing at the chinese. Enemy Bullets whiz over our head, and an FAV begins bearing down on us fully manned and very angry. We hop into the LAV at the last second, and the ABRAMs blows the FAV away. The 4 of us, badly shaken, only manage to say: "Wow nice one" Over the VOIP. Both teams commended us on our defense as the round drew to a close, and even though none of us were high scorers, it was a clear victory as we prevented the enemy from crushing our Southern force and trapping us in our uncap.
Reading it may not sound that exciting, but having been their in the middle of a group of strangers who worked wonderfully together, was easily the highlight I have had in BF2.
