Having a weird problem with my comp. Windows media player started to crash and go unresponsive, when I tired to play a video, everything started running jerky until I could shut it down. So I tried Div X to see if that worked but same problem. So I formatted my hard drive (which I was thinking about doing anyway) and it started working fine for a couple of days, but now it doing it again, exactly the same problem. I havent got a clue what is causing it, a virus? Anyway I dont really wanna have to format again it the problem just gonna reoccour again, any help much appreciated...
Help anyone...?
do u restart your computer often? may be video card/heat issues.
if u formatted it and its still doing it.. i doubt its a virus ><
do games run fine? is it a streaming video (youtube) or is it on your hardrive...
try using winamp maybe... maybe not enough page filing? or ram?
cant think of any other questions...

The virus idea doesn't seem logical expecially considering you formatted. First, what player are you using and does this happen on the same media, or multiple different files? Are they files you had downloaded or does it do it from the net? Are you using the newest version of MP10, if so I'd revert to the last stable release. Also do you have all of the proper codecs installed and updated video drivers. Hit me back with info, I'll be glad to help.
Download the AVI Codec Pack (just search that in Google) - might be some codecs you need, I know that my WMP would crash if I didn't have the correct codec.
i had the same problem aswell whilst trying to play videos, it would freeze up on any playback software apart from youtube lol. luckily i have a new pc now so i dont know how 2 fix it
Yeah vids on you tube and stuff work, it just ones I have saved on my hard drive. Ones that shouldnt really need any new codecs, and one that did I tried when it was working and it downloaded the codec and played. Like I say it just weird how it worked fine at first, and then again for a bit when I formatted then just stopped for no apparent reason. I just had a new graphics card a winfast 7600 GS, but I not sure that the problem cus like I say it worked for a bit, but wont now (surely if it were a problem with the card it wouldnt have worked from the start). I tried turning down the video accelaration on media player and then it will play the first few seconds of a vid but then the screen goes black, but it doesnt freeze up and stuff.
EDIT: Just updated to WMP 10 and now the sound plays but no picture...

UPDATE: Certain online videos will play such as youtube, google video. But ones on stuff like putfile etc. just cause firefox to lockup and I have to close the browser (it says it aint responding). At first I thought this wa just a minor problem but now it beginning to pee me off, any ideas... anyone?
i assume your video drivers are up to date? im stumped atm... but hopefully well figure it out
Yep using the latest nvidia drivers. I e-mailed my card manufacturer (although I hope and doubt its that, otherwise wouldn't there have been a problem all along not just after a while) and they said update my BIOS drivers, so I'll try that. Tried downloading codec pack as suggested but no joy, and in fact the e-mail from card manufacturer said that additional codecs could actually be the problem, which might explain the reason why it worked at first and then stopped working...
