By any chance, does anyone know how to configure a Cisco 2621XM Router with 4 Serial ports, 2 Fast Ethernet ports, 1 Console port, and 1 AUX port. It would very much be appreciated for some help.

What specific configuration questions do you have?

I have a CCNA and a CCNP, I suppose I could . What exactly do you need to know?

Fair Dinkum mate, that is as useless as going to see and doctor and saying "it hurts". What do you want to do with the router ?

If you intend on using it for your ISP connection you will be needing a T1/E1 connection to use the serial ports or a DSL connection that runs PPP over Ethernet to use on of the ethernet ports.

Give us a bit more information and we'll make that pupy sing !

Actually I intend to connect 3 other routers to the 2621 (two 2501's and one 2514). Were building a personal FTP and email server that extends between two rooms. Reason for building this is because we are trying to simulate a WAN by connecting the routers together serially and then connecting each router to a computer with the fast Ethernet ports and the console ports.

Oh ok then.

What do you need to know, I've got an extensive lab I should be able to give you a hand. If you need it.

Well I just really need to know the correct subnet for this network since we are going to use the 10.0.0.0 network address. I just need the subnet that allows for the least number of wasted addresses.

Ah ok. Its probably easiest to use a class 'C' addressing scheme for the LAN (ethernet) with a mask of  255.255.255.0. For the point-to-point (serial) connections between routers use 255.255.255.252, this will allow one address at each end of the PtP circuit.

IP Address 10.1.1.1 Mask 255.255.255.0
_______________Ethernet 0 (Router 1)
                                                   \Serial 0 - IP Address = 10.254.254.254    Mask = 255.255.255.252
                                                     \
                                                       \
                                                         \
                                                           \Serial 1/0 - IP Address = 10.254.254.253 Mask = 255.255.255.252
                                                       (Router 2)
                                                            /Serial 1/1 - IP Address = 10.254.254.249 Mask = 255.255.255.252
                                                          /
                                                        /
                                                      /
                                                    /Serial 0 - IP Address = 10.254.254.250  Mask = 255.255.255.252
________________Ethernet 0 (Router 3)
Ip Address 10.1.2.1 Mask 255.255.255.0

Try something like that.

Well we tried it but we are missing one more address for the fourth router, the 2621 with the two Ethernet and 4 serial ports on it. We got all the others to talk to each other but could not connect back to the 2621.

Do you have Visio or any other drawing package ? Can you draw me the network as it is connected at the moment ?

Instead of Visio you can use gliffy. It's web-based

Well don't need visio, we got all four routers working last night so thanks anyway.

What was the solution?

We just change the subnet to a default class C to make it easier and change the serial ports.
Router1(2621)           Router2(2514)
S0: 10.0.1.1 --------> S1: 10.0.1.2
S1: 10.0.1.4 <-------- S0: 10.0.1.3                Router3(2501)
S2: 10.0.1.5 -----------------------------------> S0: 10.0.1.6                               Router4(2501)
S3: 10.0.1.10 <-\                                         S1: 10.0.1.7 ---------------------> S0: 10.0.1.8
                         \---------------------------------------------------------------------- S1: 10.0.1.9

We then ran Router Rip to finish off the network addresses and then tested the network by remotely telneting different routers by using the MS DOS command prompt from the computers connected to the routers and then we did one last check by pinging just to make sure.

LOL, I am guessing you must be using host addressing on each of the interfaces (mask of 255.255.255.255), because this configuration won't work in the real word.

But as long as your happy, it's all good.

When I was taking my Cisco class, the name always made me think of Crisco.
