For some reason my computer shows microsoft media videos in very dark light, as if someone turned down the brightness to almost -20.  I tried changing the brightness, but the screen just turned weird colours, like fluorescent green or pink.

It's a new computer, so I'm still ironing out problems.

How can I change the player so that I can actually SEE the video?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could always adjust video  brightness from your graphix card driver program.

I had this once. I have absolutely no idea what caused it but the way I rectified it was to do a system restore to when it was working okay. It's been fine since.

Sorry I can't point you at a cause.

Turn down/off your video acceleration.

Display Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> Troubleshoot (for ATI at least) and lower the acceleration.
